Tech is about to end the Cinderella run by Drake by a big margin. While Creighton is giving Auburn a ball game and leads by 2 at the half. I imagine Auburn will wake up in the 2nd half.
Great game between the Badgers and BYU, BYU had a big lead a couple of times but the Badgers never quit and it was a 2 point game with the top Wisc scorer taking a shot to tie and send it to OT. First loss by a Big 10 team so far.
The other shoe has dropped in Austin. I wonder who will be the next coach, there are facilities, commitment to winning, money, and the state has a lot of basketball talent. Texas has informed head men's basketball coach Rodney Terry he's been fired, sources told ESPN. Terry led the Longhorns to the Elite Eight in 2023 after taking over midseason for Chris Beard, then went to the NCAA tournament in each of the last two seasons. Texas lost to Xavier in the First Four on Wednesday, 86-80. This ends Terry's second stint in Austin, after also spending nine seasons as an assistant coach under Rick Barnes from 2002-11, helping the Longhorns reach the 2003 Final Four. He was hired as the head coach at Fresno State in 2011, going to the NCAA tournament in 2016, and then spent three seasons as the head coach at UTEP.
Well that didn't take long, apparently Sean Miller of Xavier will be the next Texas coach. That's a great hire, he can coach, and he can recruit.
Good hire at Iowa. After leading Drake men's basketball to an NCAA Tournament berth and a first-round upset of Missouri in his first season, Ben McCollum is headed to Iowa. McCollum was named as the Hawkeyes' new coach on Monday, succeeding Fran McCaffery, who spent 15 seasons in that role at Iowa.
Poor Drake. Two years in a row they’ve had to replace coaches. Their AD should be a hot prospect because of his hiring skills.
I know we as a group don't follow women's basketball like mens but JuJu Watkins of USC, the National Player of the year tore her ACL last night in the win over Miss State. Very sad, as a ND fan who 2 years ago watched Olivia Miles go down in the Sweet 16, and then last year watching Kylie Watkins go down in the ACC Tourney. It really hits home. With JuJu USC was a legit Nat'l Title contender, now not likely. She'll miss all of her Jr year in 2025-26
That's actually quite impressive, Stu. Michigan State is right behind Purdue with one incoming portal transfer. then Houston with 2. Duke and Florida are next with 3. I don't know that high numbers of retention by itself is significant, but when it involves teams like those 4 with consistently winning teams, it really says something about the overall quality of the program and definitely the coaching. It would be interesting to know in these 4 cases the impact of NIL. By the way, Texas Tech and Kentucky are 100% Portal transfers. Whoa!
I see where Richard Petrino, Ricks' son has been named head coach at Xavier, to replace Sean MIller who has moved on to Texas.
Great move by Xavier, he's probably bringing the Mtn West Player of the year with him, Musketeers will be good with him at the helm.
The Tide are raining down 3 pointers on BYU, BYU also likes to shoot 3's but are 1-13, Tied has made`12 3's. Alabama up 11 at the half
Wow, you live or die by the 3’s and Alabama is unconscious from beyond the arc tonight. 21 made so far.
Some times the law of averages catches up with a hot shooting team, but not tonight. Tide looked really good , likely to see Duke on Saturday
Great game between Rick's Arizona Wildcats and Duke. Cooper Flagg has been outstanding and they lead at half by 6, 48-42.
