They looked slow and tired in both the Iowa loss last Sunday and the Maryland game yesterday. They just did not seem able to finish their drives in the paint and treys were not falling either, always a good indicator of tired legs.
Top men's game today? I think it's Houston/Kansas, but the rest of the world thinks it's Duke/UNC. Tenn/Kentucky in the SEC is a big game. I'm sort of surprised that Ohio State/Michigan isn't the final game of the regular season for both teams as it is in football, has it ever been?
Here's a great article on Duke Basketball recruiting, new guy John Scheyer has done amazing on the recruiting trail. He's got the #1 player in Cooper Flagg in his class and just got a commit from a kid out of the NBA Academy in Africa who they say is a sure fire top 5 NBA pick. No fall off in recruiting under the new guy. Of course many of these guys are 1 and done. Duke men’s basketball hasn’t just maintained its elite recruiting pull since legedary head coach Mike Krzyzewski finally retired in 2022 — it’s arguably gotten even better. New head coach Jon Scheyer landed the country’s No. 1 recruiting class in 2023, his first year on the job, with a haul led by three top-five prospects in the country in Kyle Filipowski, Dereck Lively, and Dariq Whitehead. His 2024 recruiting class led by Jared McCain and Caleb Foster finished No. 2 in the country, only behind Kentucky. As he approaches his third year on the job, Scheyer has his best class yet. Duke’s 2025 recruiting class is so impressive there’s an argument that it’s one of the best in the modern history of the sport. Khaman Maluach, a 7’2 center from South Sudan developing in NBA Academy Africa, committed to the Duke on Wednesday to fortify its historic recruiting haul. Maluach’s combination of elite size and strength, impressive mobility, and burgeoning skill level will make him a front-runner to be selected No. 2 overall in 2025 NBA Draft ... only behind future Duke teammate Cooper Flagg Duke basketball might have its best superteam ever in 2025
What a game in Cameron Duke/UNC, the tarheels win never trailed, Cormac Ryan the Grad Transfer from Notre Dame had a career night with 6 made three's and 31 points. I didn't see it but maybe the best game of the day was South Carolina women winning at the buzzer with a 3 pt shot from their center Kamilia Cardosa. It was her first and only 3 pt attempt for the season. Bank shot to boot. I guarantee you the entire Tenn team and coaches were tihinking, that's who we want taking that shot, they didn't even guard her out at the 3 point line. The shock on their faces was evident, couldn't believe that's how they lost. Looks like the Big 10 Women's Championship game will be Nebraska vs Iowa. Huskers will give them all they can handle I'll bet. Irish women get NCState in the ACC Final. State beat us the only time we played this season and we'll be without our center in Kylie Watson, they have a big physical center in River Baldwin who we struggled with even with Watson, her replacement is a bean pole in Nat Marshall.
Huskers uip over Iowa 46-35 at the half. They are keeping Clark out of her rhythm and she has only four points at the half.
Didn't see the Neb/Iowa game but as Don said it must have been a great game. Huskers are a very good team and can make at least a Sweet 16 run. The LSU/South Carolina game was close and a huge fight erupted at the end of the game which resulted in 6 players being ejected and Kamila Kardosa the So.Car AA Center being suspended for the 1st game of the NCAA Tourney. Gamecocks are so good and deep that it won't hurt agains who ever they play in the 1st round. I am watching USC/Stanford in the Pac12 Championship game, it's the 4th qtr and the Trojans are in control right now. If they win, Stanford was the 1 seed, that means of the Power 5 conferences only OU as the #1 seed in the B12 still has a shot at the Conference Championship. The Big 12 was chalk as all 4 top seeds have made the Semi-Finals.
USC finishes off Stanford, gets the win handily. The Tree held JuJu Watkins the Trojans uber freshman but the rest of the Trojans took up the slack. Interestingly, USC has 3 Ivey leagues grad transfers.
Ohio State men crushed Rutgers yesterday on their home court 73-51 for our season ending game in the conference play. Looks like our strong finish entitles us to a bye game and we will meet the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Big Ten Tournament. If we can win that game plus Illinois, we might make it to the Big Dance?
Interim Coach Jake Diebler is making very, very difficult on the new AD. Since Holtman's dismissal he's 5-1 with wins against #1 Purdue and on the road at Mich St. We were 1-5 in the 6 games previous. At minimum he's worked his way onto the short list for consideration for the job along with Sean Miller and Dusty May from what I read
I certainly think he has earned a shot for serious consideration! The current players have really responded to him and his coaching.
