Longhorns beat KU handily in Austin to end the season, they finish as regular season runner ups to Conference champion KU.
Grabbed this off another board. ACC and Big 10 are the top women's basketball conferences. But play different games it appears. The tournament should be very interesting. During the last 6 games of both tournaments, there was a marked difference in how many threes were put up and made (if my math is correct.): ACC: 49-174. 27% Big 10: 94-249. 38%. In those six games, the ACC scored a total 644 points. The Big Ten scored 934 points. The most points any ACC team scored was 74 (Louisville v. Wake Forest) Eight Big 10 teams scored between 75 and 95 points. 5 ACC teams scored 44 or less. Two Big 10 teams scored 58 points. 1 scored 69.The other nine scored between 73 and 95. Was defense that much better in the 6 ACC games, or is the simply ACC "offensively challenged?" Should be a fun tournament. Hope we are at full strength.
Good question Terry, Big Ten teams definitely tend to shoot more treys. I will be very surprise if anyone can upend South Carolina when its all over.
Iowa taking the Buckeyes to woodshed so far, Catlin Clark is on fire. Do the Buckeyes have another 24 point comeback in them Don?
Alabama freshman Brandon Miller, whose tremendous season on the court has been clouded by controversy off it, is the Associated Press player of the year and newcomer of the year in the SEC. The AP released the results one day after Miller also was announced as the winner of the SEC's player of the year and freshman of the year awards, as voted on by the league's 14 coaches. Miller was a first-team pick on all but one AP ballot and received 12 out of a possible 14 player of the year votes and 11 as top newcomer for the regular-season SEC champion and No. 4-ranked Crimson Tide.
There was some discussion on whether or not Jim Boeheim will resign or get asked to retire after this season. They lost in the ACC tourney but they could end up in the NIT. They also discussed that Syracuse is no longer the good job and recruiting machine that it was back in the 90's when the 'Cuse were one of the top Big East teams along with Georgetown every year.
The landscape in college sports keeps changing every year, after being stable for so what seems like forever. Maybe it's my age but I prefer the things use to be.
Well Boeheim is out at Syracuse. After 47 seasons, Jim Boeheim will not be returning as the men's basketball coach at Syracuse, it was announced Wednesday. Just hours after the Orange lost to Wake Forest on a buzzer-beating 3-pointer at the ACC tournament, Syracuse announced that Adrian Autry will be replacing Boeheim. "There is no doubt in my mind that without Jim Boeheim, Syracuse Basketball would not be the powerhouse program it is today," Chancellor Kent Syverud said in a statement. "Jim has invested and dedicated the majority of his life to building this program, cultivating generations of student-athletes and representing his alma mater with pride and distinction. I extend my deep appreciation and gratitude to an alumnus who epitomizes what it means to be 'Forever Orange.'"
Tough way to go. I'm guessing the decision was made for him. I remember how good his teams were in the past. Some folks in all walks of life, especially coaching, are so wrapped in their occupations, they can't judge "when it's time". Looks like he might have been one of those. EDIT: Just read in the NYT that he announced he was retiring, so it appears to be voluntary. If so, re: the above meandering: Never mind.
Buckeyes upset the Badgers in open round of the tournament last night 65-57. We came out very aggressive and led by 24 at the half. Second half as a different story and Wisconsin stormed back but we managed to regroup
Holtman on a save his job run!! But the best time to have it all come together and get hot is right now in playoff basketball.
Duke just beat Pitt the regular season ACC Champion and have been playing well as late, again in playoff basketball it's the best time to have it come together and play well.
Wolverines get a Sparty serenade when walking off the court at the BTT after getting drilled by Rutgers.
Well Bill Self is out for the B12 Tourney undisclosed medical problem. Probably doesn't matter as KU is pretty much locked in as a #1 seed anyway and they don't need to win another game after the WVU win last night.
