We play the Gophers this evening on the road. Big problem is that we may not have a true point guard available to injuries. Not a good situation for the Buckeyes. Wheeler has a foot problem and Meechie Johnson has been out for three games with a facial injury and concussion.
No doubt the availability of your players in the Covid environment is a big factor in not just college basketball but the NBA as well. I watched a Jazz game this week where they played without all their starters.
Buckeyes win on the road over the Gophers tonight 75-64 which really puts us in play in the conference games. Wheeler did not play but Meechie Johnson did a decent job with out too many turnovers. Lidell did most of the damage as usual.
SEC v B12 Challenge this weekend! The return of Rick Barnes to Texas, a lot of memories from the good times at Texas with Rick Barnes. It's his first time back in Austin since he was fired. He was always a class act and I'm glad he's found a home in Knoxville. I hope though that Texas beats his ass on his return!!! The Big 12 will take a break from conference play for the ninth annual men's basketball Big 12/SEC Challenge on Saturday, January 29. This year marks the seventh for all 10 games to be played on one day. Big 12 teams are 44-35 (.557) in the Big 12/SEC Challenge. The Big 12 has a yearly Challenge record of 4-2-2 with wins in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2019. One game was canceled in 2021 due to COVID. Ties occurred in 2017 and 2020. Saturday January 29 Big 12/SEC Challenge No. 19/18 LSU at TCU (ESPN2), 11:00 a.m. Missouri at No. 23/24 Iowa State (ESPNU), 1:00 p.m. Oklahoma at No. 1/2 Auburn (ESPN), 1:00 p.m. West Virginia at Arkansas (ESPN2), 1:00 p.m. CT/2:00 p.m. ET No. 4/4 Baylor at Alabama (ESPN), 3:00 p.m. Kansas State at Ole Miss (ESPNU), 3:00 p.m. Oklahoma State at Florida (ESPN2), 3:00 p.m. No. 12/13 Kentucky at No. 5/5 Kansas (ESPN), 5:00 p.m. Mississippi State at No. 13/14 Texas Tech (ESPN2), 5:00 p.m. No. 18/20 Tennessee at RV/No. 25 Texas (ESPN), 7:00 p.m.
SEC has taken it to the B12 this time. Even #5 KU was beaten handily by Kentucky. SEC 6 - 3 with Texas v Tenn just now getting started.
Coach K is on his retirement tour and no doubt will be getting special gifts like he did today in his last visit to Louisville. Where he got special editions of a Louisville Slugger baseball bat and a bottle of Makers Mark with his face etched on it.
Longhorns up 17 late in the 2nd half. This is the first sellout of the Erwin Center (aka the Super Drum) since 2016 vs KU. Shows you how things have going for Longhorn basketball. Next year we move into a new arena, the Moody Center which will seat 10k for most games but they somehow can expand it to 15k for special events.
Texas tried to piss away that big lead, up 17 with 7 minutes to play. Tenn went to full court pressure and turned us over and over, triggering a 19 - 2 run and add that we missed 3 of our 4 Ft in the last minute, we were at 52 - 51 with Tenn in possession with 6.2 seconds and they missed their last shot and we escaped with the win.
Helluva a game at Purdue vs Ohio State. 2 3 pointers by Ohio State one off an inbounds pass to tie, erasing a huge 2nd half deficit to the Boilermakers when it looked like Purdue was going to stroll to a win. But Purdue played for the last shot hit a deep 3 at the buzzer by Jaden Ivey sealed it for the Boilermakers.
Terry, I can answer your question about Ivey. He injured his hip (flexor?) in practice before the IU game. Although he played in that game, he sat out the next game (Northwestern). I'm guessing Painter isn't ready to put him back in the starting lineup quite yet. If there's another reason, I'm not aware of it. I agree that it was a helluva game.
That was a tough loss for us, but proud of the way we fought back and tied the score, only to lose on a trey by Purdue as game ends.
OSU was cold on threes until late when they couldn’t miss anything they threw up. Kudos to the Buckeyes. Boilers lucky to pull it out.
Standing room only in Lubbock for the return of Chris Beard/Texas. Funny thing is that his replacement, Mark Adams has done a great job in replacing his old boss. He has 2 top 5 wins having beaten KU at home and Baylor in Waco. Atmosphere is crazy loud tonight, lots of fun signs taunting Beard and the Longhorns. Oh the game, Tech in control up 12 points under 4 to go.
I see the Ohio State/Iowa game has been cancelled. Are things pretty bad in Ohio Don? Some how we've been able to play in South Bend. Here in Houston it's 26 degree's but no snow!!
We ended up w about six inches of snow over ice and sleet mixture. We will have to be plowed out but no loss of power thank goodness.
