Re: Butler's hire of Thad Matta. I never knew the issue that drove him to leave coaching. An article in the Indy Star had this explanation:
A bit more information Sid. In addition to Thad's medical problems, his ability to recruit suffered as well as one might expect. Gene Smith AD approached Thad and a mutual agreement was reached for Thad to leave Ohio State with a limited buyout agreement. Like Terry, I hope his medical issues have bee resolved. I am confident Butler was well aware of his medical problems.
OK that National Anthem by the Preservation Hall Jazz Band with Tank Ball... One of the more unusual ones that I have ever he heard!
BTW that distinctive letterman jacket Staley wore last night? Well it is a Louis Vuitton, and cost around 5.5K!
UNC got off to a bad start but they are tuning up KU right now, keeping KU from being able to finish around the rim.
KU started making the shots that they get at the rim, finishing. They couldn't do it in the 1st half.
I can't wait to hear Barkley, he dissed McCormick calling him out as not a great player unless he is playing against munchkins like Villanova. Biggest comeback in Championship history!
B12 certainly has a lot of good programs. I think Texas is going to be in there with Baylor, KU, Texas Tech.
Thad Matta, now head coach at Butler, has hired Greg Oden and John Diebler as new full time coaches, for the coming basketball season. Their roles have not been clearly defined at this point. Both players played for Matta at Ohio State for four full years. John's brother Jake is currently an assistant coach at Ohio State.
Another Shocker...Jay Wright has retired from Villanova at the age of 60, Fordham coach is taking the job. I wonder if the age of NIL and easy transfers has him saying to hell with it. Time to retire and enjoy life.
Jay Wright is one of those coaches you think - at least I have - is going to be around forever. Except for his hair color, he hasn't changed in all the years he's been at Villanova.
A good coach and he has nothing more to prove. I think it's an excellent decision on his part and I wish him well in his retirement. I imagine he sees the hand writing on the wall and time to move on without all of the pressure.
