We'll see but I do think Vic Shaffer is really building something in Austin for women's basketball. Texas is a state loaded with great women basketball players. It's his second season in Austin and he's made a lot of big strides. Still lost twice to Baylor but I think that will come to an end next year. This years freshmen have really come along, he has 2 five stars in this class and next years classs {2022} is loaded with talent as well.
I see that A&M poached the women's basketball coach (Joni Taylor) from Georgia to replace the retiring Gary Blair. Seems like a good but not great hire. She does know the SEC and like I said about Schafer at Texas, there is a lot of great talent in Texas. In seven seasons at Georgia, Taylor was 140-75 (62-48 SEC). She took the Lady Bulldogs to four NCAA tournaments but never reached the Sweet 16. This season, Georgia fell to 3-seed Iowa State 67-44 in the second round. While terms have not yet been announced, Texas A&M is expected to increase Taylor’s compensation considerably. Taylor was just extended six years by UGA last year. Her new contract increased her salary $100,000 to $850,000 a year but increased incrementally to $925,000 in the final year, not including numerous performance bonuses.
Right now it looks to me like Gonzaga is intimidated by the Arkansas defense and physical play. Arkansas is getting inside and scoring while the Zags are getting shots blocked, or really poor shots and they can't hit the 3. Stopped the Zags running game
Gonzaga is in big trouble, one of their big stars, Holmgren has 4 fouls and the Razorbacks are continuing to beat them up and make them play their game not the fast paced up and down style that Gonzaga likes.
Hogs win, the just out played out muscled, intimidated Gonzaga. Gonzaga never had an easy shot, or if they did it came up short. Those Gonzaga stars, Timmie and Holmgren had a hard time with the Arkansas inside defense, Arkansas just outfought and out hustled them.
Villanova moves on to the Elite 8 along with Arkansas. Duke is next up with Texas Tech who IMHO plays a lot like Arkansas. Defense, defense, defense.
Our 3 point shooting was a liability nearly all year and remained so tonight. Compounding that problem this game was missed lay ups and horrible free throw shooting. The tougher minded and better coached team won tonight.
Watching Houston and Arizona, Cougars are another strong and active defensive team who is leading Arizona at half. They are are accumulating a lot of fouls though which could become a problem late in the game. They are also relentless on the offensive boards. Texas Tech is also very tough and physical team and leads Duke at the half. Probably a lot of Television execs who are holding their breaths right now. You know they are hoping the Coach K retirement tour ends in the National Championship game
Barn burner in San Antonio. Cougars in control but Arizona is not giving up. It is frantic right now with a minute to go
I haven't watched KU/Providence, but was following the score and early it looked like KU was going to run them out of the building. Somehow Providence got back in and made it close at the end. So we have a #1 in the elite 8
