Gators won a barn burner over Ole Miss. Hit a 3 pointer to tie the game with little or no time left then won in over time. We are still a long shot for the Big Dance but can hope.
Texas got the big upset of Kansas this week, squaring us at 4-4 in the B12. KU is in danger of not winning the B12 Championship for the first time in a very long time. Women's College basketball has definitely become more competitive. UConn is still one of the best teams and Geno hasn't forgotten how to coach, but there is more and more talent coming out of the High Schools every year and he can't get them all. Louisville upset them Thurs night, and Baylor beat them a few weeks ago. Right now you'd have to say that the top 8 teams on the women's side are more equal this year than any other year in recent memory. Still a bit of a drop off after that. But parity is definitely coming to the womens game.
Holy Cow did you see that Va Tech beat NC State 47 to 24! In modern college basketball you'd think with the shot clock nobody could score that low. Longhorns euphoria over beating KU didn't last long, road trip to Iowa State resulted in a loss. Irish men got scoring from an unusual source, Nikola Djogo who scored more , 21, against BC than he's scored all season. We got production from 4 of 5 starters and pulled out a close game at BC. It would be nice if those guys finally had a light bulb go on and we could go on a run in Feb.
I would say so Terry, Purdue is right behind Michigan. MSU has lost three games straight now with a key injury (Langford). Rutgers played Michigan pretty tight this evening.
Actually we are tied now, Don. Michigan in driver's seat because of their win over Purdue very early (Dec 01)...but it looks to me as Michigan's remaining schedule is a bit tougher (Home at Wiscy, @Md. and MSU x 2). But any conference game this time of year can come up and bite you. We also have @Md. but we are done with MSU and Wiscy.
KU lost again last night, they seriously are in trouble of having their streak of B12 Regular season championships broken. KState and Baylor are looking good.
I see the NCAA is considering reviewing all buzzer beating shots in the NCAA tournament. Right now they only review them if they affect the outcome. The interesting reason is gambling. Point spreads, that's huge in basketball gambling
Buckeyes notch a win in Bloomington this afternoon 55-52. Coach Holtmann is the first Ohio State coach to win two back to back games in Bloomington since 1913!
Texas going to Kansas State, the B12 leader, tonight. Texas followed their big win against KU at home with a road loss at Iowa State, then beat Baylor at home and went on the road and beat West Virginia. We sit at 6-5 now in the B12, a win vs KSU would be a very big win for Shaka Smart. We have 6 more regular season games after tonight 3 at home and 3 on the road. If somehow we can get on a roll we could get on the bubble where our performance in the B12 tourney is meaningful. Or we could be NIT bound.
Last night it was a great UNC/UVA game and tonight I watched LSU/Kentucky and it was also a great game, LSU wins with a tip in at the buzzer. Duke./ Louisville up next.
