    Upsets abound.

ACC Final: Seed #4 FSU vs. #6 NC State

Big10 Final: Seed #4 Maryland vs. #3 Michigan

I use the term "upsets" loosely. Baseball, more than any other sport it seems, is a game of equals. Any team, no matter how bad its record, on any given day can beat a much better team. It won't happen often, but it does happen in a way that you don't see in football or basketball or hockey or even soccer.

Upset of all upsets....Texas wins the B12 tourney from the 5 seed slot, and with a team that has struggled all year. But if you get hot at the end in tournament baseball that's all that counts.

Lake Elsinore, CA? There's no college out there that I'm aware of. A friend of mine used to coach there. It's in Riverside, County 100 miles from Santa Barbara. Anybody know what the deal is there?

Lake Elsinore is the home of the high A farm club of the San Diego Padres, the Storm. Players move up to there from Fort Wayne. The stadium capacity is 7,866, which is more than adequate for a college playoff site. I know nothing about the location of UC Santa Barbara relative to Lake Elsinore, but the NCAA has chosen it as a site with UCSB as the host. Let's play ball!

The Gators lost their first game in the SEC Tournament then came out of the losers bracket to win the tournament.

Congrats Bill, my son and I watched the game including the 2 1/2 hour rain delay.

We had a one loss 12 inning affair with NC State that prohibited us from playing for the conference championship with the format used in the ACC.

    Onto the Regionals......

I'm still scratching my head over TCU getting a top 8 over A&M.

A&M has a higher RPI: the NCAA's own stupid ranking formula.

A&M has more wins than TCU.

A&M's strength of schedule is ranked 38 points higher than TCU's.

TCU is 4-4 against top 25 RPI teams while A&M is 7-3.

Oh well... we'll just prove the committee wrong in Ft Worth.

    B12 > SEC :)

Irish are #2 seed in the Illinois Regional and will play Wright State to open. More than fair seed and placement. We've got a chance, that's all you can ask.

Texas is the #3 seed in the Dallas Regional, the #1 seed is Dallas Baptist. How strange is that, Dallas Baptist with a better seed than Texas, hosting a regional that Texas was just glad to be at.

We play Oregon State who is the #2 seed. Oregon State has a pretty good program, having won a NC recently.

But Dallas Baptist baseball > Univ of Texas baseball....just mind numbing. Augie needs to go and they should hire that guy at Dallas Baptist.

Just looking at the bracket, and one thing jumps off the page at me:
The committee really didn't like the SEC much.
    8)

They put LSU, A&M, and Vanderbilt all in the same side.
If they all get to Omaha... that's not exactly the way you'd like to see things set up.
Both LSU and A&M were ranked #1 during the season, not sure about Vandy, but I know they were top 10.

As it's set right now... A&M would face LSU in the first round in Nebraska.
    Nice.

    And they're off!

ND clubs Wright St 13 - 7 to get off to a good start.
Bob's weasels started off with a win as well.
Cal "upset" Coastal Carolina to get into the winner's bracket in College Station.
Columbia upsets East Carolina... sort of a surprise there.
    #1's play later this evening.

I hooked up the computer to the TV and watched the ND game on ESPN3. The Irish used the long ball and scored most of its runs with 2 outs. It doesn't guarantee anything, but it's always nice to start out with a win in a double-elimination format.

The Aggies don't play their best offensive game, but against 4th seed Tx Southern they didn't have to. Pitching overwhelms them, and we move on 5-0.

Some other #1 seeds not having it as good.

DBU is losing to VCU 6-2 in the 8th.
FSU finally gets takes out Mercer 5-4 in extra innings.
Ok St is tied with St John's in the 9th...

I didn't know you had the technical expertise to do it without hurting yourself! Come clean one of your grandkids was over and showed Granpop how to do it! :)

Good win for the Irish though. Losers bracket is the tough way to go.

Longhorns lose to the Beavers. Face loser of the Dallas Baptist/VCU game.

Forgot to mention that the Gators have missed a couple of extra points, but looks like it won't bite them: up 19-0.
