I agree Sid, when Ole Miss scored three runs in the eighth inning, I thought to myself it's all over for Murray State, but as you said they held on to win. I just happened to catch the last few innings.
Surprised at how well the ACC has done so far. It was looking like SEC teams were going to dominate and grab a large share of the Super Regional slots. But they didn't. The field of 16 includes five teams from the ACC (the most in ACC history), four teams from the SEC (the SEC initially sent 13 teams to the tournament), two from the Big 12, one each from the Big Ten, the American, the Ohio Valley, the Sun Belt and one independent. This is the first time the ACC has more super regional teams than the SEC since 2008.
Longhorns vs Texas Tech. Longhorns writer Kirk Bohls predicts a Texas win and makes them the favorites for next year as well. It's very possible that Nijaree Canady will pitch the first 2 games.
More from Bohls. I’m very reluctant to call the just-completed Texas baseball season a disaster even though the No. 2 national seed failed to advance out of a regional against a mid-major on its home turf. That said, I believe UTSA is one of the best mid-major teams I’ve seen in half a century of covering college baseball. In fact, the Roadrunners looked so together, so fundamentally sound, so good in every phase of the game and especially defensively that it’s a little surprise Texas A&M didn’t consider hiring Pat Hallmark instead of retaining Michael Earley. It’s nice to see Trev Alberts give the first-year head coach a mulligan, but Earley will undoubtedly start the 2026 season with a short leash.
Longhorns were just screwed by a review. Terrific throw to 2nd by catcher to nail the runner but the review showed the left foot of the SS a little to far over and called interference. The runner was out by a mile, foot or no foot. Instead of bases empty and 2 out, the runner is on 2nd with one out and they get a single to score the player. 1-0 and with NiJaree Canady that might be enough for the Red Raiders.
This has been wild, leading 1-0 with 2 outs and 2 Longhorns on base TT decides to walk the batter and load the bases , but Canady threw the first 3 pitches above the zone instead of way outside and on the 4th one the Longhorn screw this I'm swinging and she hits it scoring both runners and we lead 2-1 going to the top of the 7th. Also the Longhorn starting pitcher is from the same neighborhood as Catlin Clark and went to Dowling Catholic like Clark. What is the connection between Teagan Kavan and Caitlin Clark? The Longhorns ace and 2025 WNBA Rookie of the Year both hail from West Des Moines, Iowa. In an April 2 interview with D1Softball, Kavan mentioned she and Clark lived a few blocks away from each other and had some overlap in high school at Dowling Catholic. "It's very cool," Kavan told D1Softball. "We grew up really close to each other. "She took me to basketball practice my freshman year summer, and it's really cool we have that connection."
Why don't they wear caps in Softball? Tonight's game shaping up as another pitching duel. Longhorns have a rested pitcher in Mac Morgan while Tech going with Canady.
I don't get the softball rule that allows you pull player and then bring them back. Longhorns sit Mac Morgan, and they say she can come back.
Longhorns give up 2 runs in the 5th, hit by pitch and passed ball. Going to be tough sledding with Canady pitching well. Down 2-0.
Another pitching change, and Texas brings in last night's winner, Reagan Kavan. Tech has runners on 1st and 3rd. 1 out
Longhorns made it interesting, but lose 4-3. Game 3 no doubt will be Kavan v Canady. 3 straight games for Nijaree
Longhorns get to Nijaree for 5 runs in the 1st. 3rd time they have seen her and they looked very comfortable. Texas Tech hasn't been a good offense, so that 5 runs is a tall hill for them to climb.
Start engraving the Trophy for Texas. Grand Slam by Mia Scott and it's 10-0. Longhorns likely to run rule Tech now. If the lead is 8 runs or more after the 5th inning..game over. Tech has score at least 3 runs in their next at bat.
