Well the Aggies outlasted the Horns last night in 11 innings 4-2. For about the last 5 weeks, the first four big guns of the Aggie line up have really struggled with the breaking ball. I mean completely utterly horribly awfully. Credit the Horn coaches for seeing that and feeding a steady diet to them for good effect. Braden Montgomery is the only one who seems to be coming out of it, and with no one on in front of him it renders him ineffective as well. In the end the texas errors, and the bottom of our order scratched just enough across to get the win. Ugh. I look at the talent on this team and have very big doubts that if this team does make it to Omaha, that they can do any damage with the current funk on the big sticks. Oh well... on to the next game to see what happens. Maybe they'll all get a good jump-scare and come out of it together.
So after some eliminations, lets see where we stand. Rick's Cats are the first host to be eliminated... they did get a tough draw. I think Arkansas is the only national seed in the loser bracket today. Wake Forest is out from a 2 seed. Vandy is out from a 2 seed. La Tech is out from a 2 seed. Bama is out from a 2 seed. The rest are 3 and 4's. The "Elimination Gong" will sound quite a few times today as we get down to the super regional 16.
The Aggies hit 5 bombs last night to defeat Louisiana and advance to the supers. After Sunday's action 5 slots still remain to be determined today. So far Tennessee, FSU, Virginia, Kansas St, West Virginia, A&M, Oregon, Clemson, UGA, NC St, and Kentucky are set for next weekend. Games that will decide the final 5 today: East Carolina vs Evansville OU vs UConn UNC vs L$U. (Come on dirty feet!) Ok St vs Florida Oregon St vs UC Irvine
I wonder who hosts in the Virginia/KSU Super regional?? Arkansas would have been the host as a national seed, so does KSU get it by default, or does Virginia since they were already a host? I looked it up. They are playing at Virginia. Probably because they are already set up to host and were the higher seed.
Thank all that is good in the universe... Loser State was defeated and will NOT be advancing. UNC to face West Virginia next this coming weekend.
We're down to 16. I think only Bill and I still have any skin in the game at this point. Oddly... I believe College Station is the western most Super Regional this weekend.
Wow... FSU really took it easy on UConn... beating them 24-4. Evansville is giving the Vols a game, it's 8-5 in the 6th.
Oklahoma won its 4th straight National Championship in softball, taking down the Longhorns easily. OU coach Patty Gasso now has 8 championship trophys.
Evansville takes down the Vols. Series is tied, winner of game 3 moves on to the CWS. It was a bitter pill for the Vols to swallow when the Irish went to Knoxville and won the Super Regional over I think the #1 seed Tenn. Lose to the Aces would be even more bitter to choke down.
I guess the Georgia pitchers weren't allowed to use any foreign substances today, they give up 18 to NC State in a bad losing effort. The Aggies win round one against Oregon 10-6, but lose all american Braden Montgomery to an ankle injury in the 1st. Not good to lose your best player before the war is won. The Gators take game one from Climpson 10-7. UF can mash, so if they get that pitching right they can do a lot of damage. Free Shoe U knocks out Uconn in extras and is the first team with a flight to Omaha.
