1. What the heck is the Leavenworth Pub? 2. Looks like the Gators will face the #1 overall pick in the MLB Draft in Paul Skenes for the Tigers on the mound
Well, LSU just destroyed the Gators tonight. 18 runs, 24 hits. Didn't even need Skeenes, the best pitcher in college baseball.
They didn't need him for sure, but here's Curt Schillings take on that high pitch count from Thursday impacting whether he should (have) pitched tonight. FWIW it looked like they were going to bring him in to finish off the 9th, but with the big run outburst I guess they figured what the heck he wasn't needed why not give that freshman some more big game experience.
Leavenworth lounge/pub was a staple of CWS bars when the "Blatt" was the home....fans of past know this and still pack the place during the CWS...old school single rail bar that has stood the test of time for decades....my dad drank there in the 50's.
Curt Schilling? If I'm looking for an opinion, his wouldn't be the one I'd seek. As it turned out, they didn't need him, and MLB teams seeking to draft him breathed a sigh of relief. The 57 total runs for the three games has to be a record.
I agree with Schilling. Nobody coddles their pitchers more than the New York Yankees. If the wind changes directions they are taken out of games. And they are constantly hurt. Let the kid play baseball.
Well two epic beatdowns in the last two games. Unfortunate for the Gators but congratulations to LSU.
In the 1957 CWS, the first one that Notre Dame Baseball participated in, the Irish beat Colorado State 23-2 in the 1st Losers Bracket game and then beat Texas 9-0 in the next game to make it to the semi-finals where they lost to Penn State 5-4, California beat Penn State for the Championship. Until the Gators scored 24 runs the 1957 Irish and the 1984 Arizona State squads held the record for the most runs in a CWS game at 23. That '84 ASU squad had Barry Bonds.
