Don, I was following the gamecast and didn't get to see it, but all the guys on TexAgs said it was probably the best throw-tag they had seen all year.
Afternoon update: ND and UNC are tied 1-1 in the 5th. OSU beats the Longhorns 8-1 to force an elimination game to see who makes the XII title game. Florida beats Alabama in an elimination game and will face A&M later this afternoon. Michigan hammered Maryland yesterday, so Indiana and Maryland square off today in what I assume is an elimination game.
Florida advances as the Aggies put in a very ho-hum effort in the 9-0 loss. Hope the rest before Regional play helps with the errors the last two games. Can't go far in the big tourney with that continuing. We should see all the host sites announced tomorrow with the top 8 coming Monday.
Women's World Series field shows how hard it is to predict /seed teams. The ACC had 6 teams in the Field and only 1 survived, VA Tech. The SEC had 12 teams seeded and only 1 survived, Florida. It looks like the Pac12 will have 3 or 4 teams (out of 7), ALL 3 Big 12 teams, and 1 possible Big 10 team (out of 7) as Northwestern plays ASU for the final slot today. Longhorns went into the hills and beat 4th seeded Arkansas. As for seeding, 9 of the 16 were from the overrated SEC or ACC. Out of those top 16 seeds, only 3 seeded teams made it so far: #1 Oklahoma, #5 UCLA, and #7 Oklahoma State. The other 3 unseeded teams are Texas who beat #13 Washington and # 4 Arkansas, Arizona who beat 2 SEC teams (#15 Missouri & Miss St), and Oregon State who beat # 11 Tennessee before beating fellow PAC12 team who upset #6 Bama. The other 2 games today are between seeded teams. #9 Northwestern (who beat ND) is at #8 ASU tonite. Before that #3 Va Tech takes on #11 Florida. Va Tech is the only team left from the ACC as #2 FSU was upset in regionals, #10 Clemson lost Friday at higher seeded Ok State, and #12 Duke lost yesterday at higher seeded UCLA. So at 2pm Eastern today we will see if Va Tech can protect it's home field and beat the last of SEC's 5 seeded teams and 12 total SEC teams that made the tourney.
North Carolina wins the ACC over NC St. Rutgers faces Michigan in the BIG. OU vs the Horns for the XII. Oregon St vs Stanford in the PAC. Oops, sorry Tom and Cindy - I forgot to mention that Tennessee beat Florida to win the SEC tournament.
Regional sites: A&M Maryland UNC Va Tech Texas Miami Oregon St Ok St Stanford Georgia Southern Louisville Tennessee Southern Miss East Carolina Florida Auburn ND isn't hosting, which was thought to be a lock by the baseball sites I looked at. Who knows what this committee is going to throw out tomorrow.
Gators get a baseball regional and advance to the Women's softball World Series. Great day to be a Gator.
It hurts ND that we have a small stadium and no history of having a large following. I don't know what our average attendance is but I would not be surprised if if it was about 1/2 the stadium capacity (2500)
The curse of a northern baseball program. That's OK. It's a challenge we have to overcome if we hope to get to Omaha.
Early scores: Aggies 8 - Oral Roberts 2 F ND 2 - Techtards 0 1st Horns 11 - Air Force 3 8th I don't see any other games of interest. Crazy stat of the day: a kid from East Carolina homered from both sides of the plate - in the same inning!
