Former OU QB Josh Huepel named new UCF coach. Now....I know Frost would like to come back and coach the bowl game....but as the new coach....do you really want somebody that's in full recruiting mode to be be hanging around your kids, and especially hunting at the bowl game?

I guess the question is will Heupel coach UCF in the bowl game. Most of the time the existing staff coaches the bowl game, not the new coach. The new coach knows nothing about the team or the playbook usually so he focuses on getting a staff together and going out recruiting while the skelton crew coaches the bowl.

Last year Tom Herman did not coach UH in the bowl, but the staff even those who eventually followed him to Texas stayed and coached the Cougars.

Interesting hire of Josh Heupel though, Nat'l Champ QB, but who'd been fired by Stoops recently. I didn't know he was at Missouri though, they certainly found something on offense so maybe Heupel has some magic.

Willie Taggert is dumping on Oregon to move back to Fla for the FSU job.

I wonder what Phil Knight will do, I'm sure he's pretty shocked.

Taggert might be better at FSU than Jimbo was...

That's a great hire for FSU. It's got to be much easier recruiting FSU than Oregon. Still, Oregon's resources are as deep as anyone's and I assume a coach will jump at that.

That would be a quick hire since they just hired a new AD. (at Arkansas)

Confirmed Chad Morris to Arkansas. Now SMU is open. The SMU AD had to know that Chad had one foot out the door and has been preparing for him leaving so I wonder who the next SMU coach will be.

Apparently Taggert leaving is not being well received out on the West Coast. They had a great class in the making and now they are seeing mass defections on the line with recruits saying that he and his staff have lied to them the whole time about their intentions.

They need to move fast to get it reversed. Jim McElwain and Kevin Sumlin are rested and ready to go!

Looks like the Alabama Defensive Coordinator Jeremy Pruitt may be the next Tennessee coach. He is a very good Defensive Coordinator and recruiter. I don't think he has ever been a Head Coach. I guess at this point the Vols just need to get someone in the spot. Not a done deal yet but looks like it is going to happen. Not good for Alabama.

Anybody remember Terry Wilson?.....looks like NU and UF going head to head to land this kid.

    Quote from the sports boards:

This kid has always wanted to play for Scott Frost. Signed with Oregon over Nebraska because of Frost and then left Oregon for JUCO when Frost left. Now, Frost is recruiting him to Nebraska now that he is there. I would expect Frost will seal that deal with Wilson soon.

Well one thing you can say about Saban is that losing top assts doesn't seem to slow down the program either on the field or in recruiting.

What it does hurt though is the playoffs. When one of your coordinators is doing 2 jobs, that is hiring new staff, recruiting etc for his new school while trying to help out the old school is a losing prop for the old school. I think that Saban made a mistake in letting Kiffin go before the Nat'l Champ game last year. Sure Sark had been around the program most of the year, but not like Kiffin.

Of course they won with Kirby Smart doing 2 jobs the year before.

I expect though that the next Alabama DCoord will be a good hire who will continue the great defense that Saban's for which Saban's teams have always been known.

I wonder if Chavis is in the mix for DC at Alabama? I have heard nothing about possible candidates.

I'll stir the ND guys up a little.
Mike Elko has come up as possible DC for A&M.
Might just be internet jabber... No one I know confirms that it's a legit candidacy...

It would be a real kick in the nuts if Elko left ND now, but truthfully I would be surprised, I really think he's made a commitment and I expect him to be at ND maybe three years but for sure in 2018. He's a high energy guy who's active with recruiting and no doubt wants to be a head coach.

But if you guys offer him 1.5M to coach, that might be tough to turn down.

What about Kes's guy at Wash State?
