Locksley's kid was a QB at Texas, Kai Locksley, he stayed 2 years and never made it as a QB, switched to WR and didn't play so he left. Apparently he's moved back to QB at the CC level and put up some good numbers and he's going to play QB at UTEP in 2018. Promoting from within isn't a bad strategy, and Locksley has been an OCoord and HC before at Illinois and Maryland so it's not his first rodeo. Plus with Saban, I have no doubt he understands who is in charge and what the offensive goals are for him. He's also known as a good recruiter. It will certainly be interesting to see where the Alabama Offense goes and how the QB competition works out this Spring.
Don, it seems as if Saban provides overall direction but not playcalling. Obviously, he has the final decision making power but I think the OC has discretion to implement the team offense.
No announcement yet. Apparently Locksley was contemplating a move to FSU. I wonder if there has been a snag. Scott, I think we did hire a new Special Teams coach. 8)
I saw something that said Hugh Freeze threw his hat in the ring for the OCoord job at Alabama that went to Locksley. How strange.
I wonder if Freeze will get taken on as a strategist/consultant type of role. Saban really seems interested in his input.
As long as we don't have any "Joey Freshwater" situations, I think Hugh will be fine. He's got the Jesus card to fall back on, unlike Lane.
If he comes here I am sure Saban will have conditions. I sure as hell don't want him doing anything that would give the NCAA excuses to visit Alabama. On second thought why chance it. I have to question his integrity. His actions don't match his words.
This is an AD move. Notre Dame alum and former baseball player Allen Greene has been named AD at Auburn.
The Irish have quite a few AD's across college sports. Ohio State and Purdue have ND alums as AD's and there are some more that I can't think of right at this moment. I see that since the Titans have hired Mike Vrabel as their HC, that he reportedly is going to hire the Ohio State OCoord to be the Titans OCoord.
Irish Illustrated reporting that Brian Kelly unsuccessfully interviewed for the Head Coaching job with the Chicago Bears. For a team that ended the season as a legitimate NC contender for 2018, could things be any more disorganized?
I'd like to hear the full story before I pass judgement. There could be a myriad of reasons why he interviewed. Did the Bears approach him? Did another outside source suggest he give it a whirl? Did he initiate the interview? Let's see if this story gets legs and ultimately leads to more information.
I don't know whether or not he did of course, but if he did behind Swarbricks back then that to me would be a big problem for their relationship. I have no doubt that last year Swarbrick decided to go forward with Kelly and they probably had a sit down and discussed a plan to keep him if he did certain things...ie made some new hires outside his comfort zone which was coaches he'd previously worked with. I wouldn't be surprised if Jack told him it was a 3 year deal and that his status as the coach at ND would be evaluated on the on the field results. It wasn't a popular decision, but that's what he did. So for Kelly now to go behind his back and interview for a job, that's breaking the deal/trust. Of course at this point Jack isn't likely to fire him as it's too late in the game. But I wonder if that is the reason that Heistand went to the Bears and why Elko decided to take the A&M offer.
George, Sid, and Terry, this situation would make a wonderful plot for a Netflix series. Sorry, I just could not resist kidding my Notre Dame friends.
So when Mike Vrabel was hired at Tenn for the HC job, it was widely speculated around Houston on the talk shows that he was going to name Ryan Day the Ohio State OCoord as the Titanas OCoord. Nobody gave any explantion of their connection but said that was Vrabels first choice. Now I see that Urban has re assigned Kevin Wilson and that Day will be the solo OCoord now at Ohio State. Whether it was to prevent him from leaving for the NFL or he was disappointed in Kevin Wilson we'll probably never know. It was also leaked that he turned down the job as HC at Miss Sate...that I don't understand, but either way...He's the man now at Ohio State. Don, Stu, what are your thoughts.
