Scott, I didn't know that. It must be a trend. Troy University used to be be Troy State but they dropped "State" a few years ago. There was a great Dolphin running back, Mercury Morris, that played at North Texas State a very long time ago. :)

Guess they thought it sounded better.

Personally... I prefer NTSU over UNT.

So many bad monikers can be made from that...
    :p

What's funny: it hasn't changed anything in the local lexicon.

We called it "North Texas" before, and everyone still calls it "North Texas".

Well after A&M kicking us in the nuts and stealing our DCoord, Alabama is apparently looking to do the same thing and steal our OCoord.

I guess Nick looked at what he did with Ian Book in the 2nd half of the LSU game and liked what he saw and figures since Tua is on another (higher) level from Book that he'll be able to do even more at Alabama.

Of course right now it's just a rumor.

Actually I was a little surprised that the Alabama OCoord left for the NFL/Bills unless he was encouraged to do so.

Yeah I'll bet between recruiting and working for a workaholic perfectionist the NFL looked pretty good. 8)

Kevin Sumlin is the new Arizona coach, and he's bringing Noel Mazzone with him.

I saw a funny tweet when it was out there that the Navy coach was interviewing for the job, Khael Tate the multi-talented Az QB put out the tweet that he didn't come to Az to run the triple option. ;)

    :!:

    Great hire by AZ!

Navy coach is a Mormon who turned down BYU. He's also a Navy brat who called Navy his dream job. He's not going to AZ......ever...

I wish Kevin well, and think he'll succeed out west.
Lord knows he can recruit Arizona!

I read the article on the outgoing OC at Alabama and it's funny because the criticism of Saban is the very thing ND fans accuse Kelly of doing, yet he doesn't seem to do as much as he's blamed for...

I just thought it was funny.

Of course, Kiffin has been all over this. Joey Freshwater takes no prisoners.

Criticism of Saban...really? I guess being in every playoff and winning 5 Natty's isn't enough. He's won with what 3 or 4 different OCoord and was Smart his only DCoord before Pruitt?

Daboll still hasn't said anything. No quotes just second hand stuff. If that is why he left, then he needs to get a head coaching job.....and then win 6 National Championships, but I don't think that is why he left.

Well in a surprise move Texas hired the OL coach from Auburn. We have an OL coach already, he hasn't been fired. So I guess we have 2 OL coaches. A lot of Texas fans don't like OCoord Tim Beck and wanted him replaced, but he is still on the staff. Herman demoted him from play calling in the bowl game, so it's unclear what will be his duties going forward and what will the new OL coach be doing and who will be calling plays.

Re: those articles saying Daboll left because he didn't have control over things like who would play QB. Well again I say, Saban is the same guy he was when he started, he's the HC who has won 6 Nat'l Titles and I'd say he'd entitled to run his program the way he wants to run it.

That Tua is a talent is apparent, in fact Greg McElroy said after the NC game that he could see that when he visited practice during the season. But again, Saban is the HC and he gets to make those calls. If being loyal to upper class players is a problem, then why has he won so many titles.

Hey, don't shoot the messenger. I'm just relaying the story. It does seem to reinforce what Kiffin said.

Maybe one of these days, all this staff turnover will catch up to him, so far, as you've all mentioned, that hasn't been the case. They are the nation's elite 'big game team' and it's not even close. When you look at all those titles, Saban has won 2 titles without winning his division or conference. He's only had one unbeaten team if I recall correctly. The fact remains, when they line up to play for it all, there's just no one better. Ergo, it's hard to question to guy's tactics.

yeah a promotion from within. Apparently a very popular choice with the players.

Kp, How much does Saban get involved in the offense?
