Notre Dame <t>I can understand with all the money A&M is throwing around that Elko probably got an offer he couldn’t refuse but....could the timing on<br/> This be any worse??? No. It could not!<br/> <br/> In case anyone is wondering....this really PISSES ME OFF!!!</t>
A lot of the recruits are tweeting negative reactions. I wonder if Kelly is difficult to work for. Sure not much continuity in the coaching staff, especially on that side of the ball.
Kind of lost in all of this is Ke's guy at DCoord is headed to Ohio State to be the Co-DCoord with Schiano. I see that he's an Ohio kid so I guess that's a big reason to leave a job where he had total control to take a job where he shares it. Money might be better in Columbus as well.
Notre Dame <r><QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> If that is true then I'm not pissed off....I'm HORRIFIED!<br/> <br/> We win a nice bowl game on Monday and can't even go a week without something like this happens!! This STINKS!</r>
There is no way that Brian Polian is the next ND DCoord, I don't know who it will be but I'd wager that either Elston or Clark Lea would be ahead of Polian.
Yeah I really hope that was just more of the NDN angst than someone reporting anything they've actually heard. I wonder if Elko brought Lea over from Wake knowing he had one foot out the door? If Lea stays, I'd say it's him or the DL coach, if not an outside hire. I think the most important thing is to hire the right guy and not panic chasing recruits or seniors in an individual year.
I am thinking Lea may be the way we want to go if we want continuity from Elko's system. It's that or we open up the checkbook to go nab someone high profile. I don't think they'll do that.
Notre Dame <t>Lea would be the ONLY current staff member for DC that makes sense to me. Otherwise Kelly needs to be looking outside his circle again as he did with Elko. We already know what happens when he hires old staff members from previous stops.</t>
I've heard that Kevin Sumlin has been in Tuscon the last two days. Might not mean anything, but I think his style could succeed there.
T - Grinch has been out the door for about three weeks now (without confirmation). As opposed to the Irish, the Cougs (for the most part) have been thankful that the rumor wasn't common knowledge before the early signing period because it would have wiped the class out. If you're looking for a silver lining, the Elko timing could have been worse.
Sunday night I was at an ND reception and spend a few minutes chatting with Jack Swarbrick. I made the comment "that's quite a talented bunch of coaches you've assembled" and I could see he was just a little uncomfortable. At the time I was thinking that maybe he was stepping down. I assume that A&M had to contact ND about speaking to him so he probably knew Elko was leaving when we spoke. This has always been a curse on successful programs. Talented coaches get hired away. I wonder how long Kelly has known he has slots to fill. Oh, and put me down as a non fan of Polian. Return and coverage teams left lots to be desired.
Yeah... but he did interview and come to terms for another head coaching job. Urban is just hedging his bets...
