Some interesting stats Tebow vs. Manziel:

    Tebow's NFL rushing stats:

    197 attempts 5.0 ypc 12 TDs 57 first downs

Manziels 2013 NCAA rushing stats: 144 att 5.3 ypc 9 Tds

    College QB stats:

Tebow 88 Tds 170.8 QB rating
    Manziel 63 Tds 164.1 QBR

Special notes are that Manziels TDs at Qb span two years vs. about three for Tebow ( partial QB in freshman year/injured as a senior )...

Manziel ran for 21 Tds his Heisman year but I didn't compare that with Tebow's college stats which were obviously very productive.

I do think it's interesting that somehow Manziel is seemingly held in higher esteem.... sees the field.... blah blah blah.... when Tebow's NFL rushing stats are very similar to Manziel's last year in college and Tebow's QBR in college was better than Manziel's.

My thoughts are the same here.... I am skeptical that Manziel will do anything at the NFL level unless he can impress the coaches in June with his practice spirals and throwing motion.

I was really little. He was the QB of the Vikings when I was a kid. I didn't even know he played for anyone else until I looked it up right now.

When I first discovered watching football, I was about 5. Fran the man was the QB of the Vikings during that time frame (until I was 9), you tend to not forget those things.

Corey, I can vouch for the things that we remember from our first 5 to 10 years on earth, especially when it comes to the sports figures of our childhood. I will reach the point where I will forget what I had for breakfast but I'll always remember Stan Musial, Willie Mays, Johnny Lattner, etc.

one of my earliest memories is of Y. A. Tittle playing in one of his last games and getting repeatedly pummelled. What a warrior.

YA Tittle, Sonny Jergenson, Fran Tarkenton, Roger Staubach, Johnny Unitas and a slew of others who probably couldn't impress Rex Ryan in July camp with their throwing motion.

But they were all tough as nails gritty winners.

Good thing they didn't play in this robo Qb age.

My first NFL game attended live was when my Dad took me to see the Browns (Frank Ryan) vs. Rams (Roman Gabriel)...The Browns lost and the next game Bill Nelson got his first start and never looked back.

    Trivia:

Cleveland is the only team without a logo on their helmet. Who was the first NFL team to have a logo on their helmet? (Topic drift alert).

I know you've got a boner for Rex Ryan, but what about every other coach, GM and owner in the league? Is this some grand anti-Tebow conspiracy?

Jeez Louise, Jerry Jones would give a 3 legged donkey 5 million a year if he thought he could even get in a wildcard spot. (That's probably not even hyperbole) At some point in time, you just gotta face that maybe dude isn't an NFL QB.

As to what KP, Stu and Sid said..

I wasn't a fan of the Vikings. I just discovered the game at that age and marveled at this seemingly little dude who just couldn't be caught and made one miracle pass after another. Like you guys said, some guys make an impression.

Building off of that, in my 4 decades on this planet I have never felt compelled to draw a single comparison to Frank Tarkenton until I saw Johnny Manziel. I don't know who is better or anything like that. I just know that he has many of those same traits and they are an incredible combination.

The other thing I noticed is how he just flicks the ball out there...he doesn't seem set...a recipe for disaster with most QB's but the ball seems to go right on target.

"Flicking the ball" isn't the main requirement these days.

How pretty can the kid make that throw from the pocket in the 7 on 7 drill in July is what matters most. Never mind his mobility, grit and determination.

And there you have it on Manziel.... NFL.com has spoken and the wave of negativity will surely explode around him.

His NFL career is toast because it won't matter if he can actually lead a team to wins.

There is little similarity between the college and pro games.

Not only that they are awarding Texas the 2009 Nat'l Title on the general principle that because of rough play by Alabama they didn't deserve it!
