I'm always surprised that Ole Miss has the recruiting success, from time to time, that they do. Granted, they wind up getting popped for cheating but still.... it's Oxford Mississippi. You can only put so much money in a bag.

[IMG] Hmmm...Oxford or Ann Arbor. Lived in AA. Visited Oxford. I would give Oxford the edge....

The Southern women can never be overlooked, obviously. Still, a lot of these SEC schools are areas jam packed with Dollar Generals, mediocre BBQ and tornado shelters... but the ladies working those places are 2nd to none though. :)

In today's episode of "As the college football world turns" also known as the SEC Arms race, there are rumors that the Miss State people are looking to get rid of their HC after two years.

A late post bowl firing, doesn't happen all that often. Teams are faster than ever at pulling the pin though these days...ask Willie Taggert and Chad Morris.

Wasn't Moorhead highly regarded coming in? I've been to Starvegas many times. It's no Oxford.

Moorehead was a nobody till he went to Penn State and hooked up with McSorely and Saquon Barkley ..that offense was really great. Before that he was at Fordham and a bunch of other low level football jobs. Funny how sometimes players make the coach!

Looks like Miss St pulled the plug. I think the Kiffin hire more than the discipline issues that lead to their starting QB suffering a facial fracture after a fight with a teammate led to this decision

There were rumblings about Moorehead until the Eggbowl win quieted things a bit. IMO, He was a bad fit from the start.

Well the Cowboys hiring McCarthy sort of tamps down the Urban Meyer to the Cowboys talk doesn't it. I still will be surprised if Urban every coaches again.

Me too Terry, now that his son-in-law has been promoted to an Assistant WR Coach for the Buckeyes, he has the best of both worlds. His family is intact with the grandkids and he is still employed by the university plus his Fox TV contract. The entire family is happy in Columbus.

Gene Chizik interviews for the Miss State job, and then pulls a Gary Barnett by pulling his name out of consideration.

I don't know if Chizik is going to be offered one of those good jobs.

Well, they brought him into Miss State and interviewed him. There was a lot of speculation among the **** slingers that he was their guy... then he pulled his name out.

    Scott,

I'm guessing you are spot on.

Well apparently the Baylor job is now open. It's being reported that Matt Rhule has taken the Carolina Panthers job. I'm not totally surprised I guess, he did sign an extension about a month or so ago with Baylor, but recently he's been cagy in answering questions about going to the NFL. I did think though that if he did that the Giants would be the team.

Reports: Matt Rhule finalizing deal with Carolina Panthers

I was a little surprised given he signed an extension. I imagine the players he recruited are not happy that he bailed on Baylor after coaching there for only a few years. I understand that players should pick a school, not a coach but my guess is that a coach’s sale spiel about how he is building something special at University X and needs the recruit to be a part of that influences the decision of many players.

One of my work buddies is a Baylor alum... he's gonna be bummed, but this was not totally unexpected.
Figured they were safe from most colleges courting Rhule, but if the NFL called...
Oh well. Would have been interesting to see if he could keep it going in Waco.

I'm sure that is true, but he didn't bring in a big highly rated class of kids. His class is small (15) and ranked #55 with only 2 recruits rated as 4 stars and neither of them are in the top 300. Not that those kids didn't have other options of course, and aren't disappointed though.
