Looks like Texas will hire Chris Ash as the DCoord. He and Herman were both on the Ohio State staff together back in 2014. Ash was a Brett Bielema guy from Wisconsin who followed him to Arkansas but was only there 1 year before going back to the Big 10 and Ohio State. Graham Harrell is out of course as a possible OCoord hire for Herman now that he's signed an extension at USC. Rumor is that Harrell wanted to come to Texas but wanted the same freedom that Helton allowed him at USC and Herman's ego wouldn't allow that.
2 years ago these were rated as the top hires for 2018 https://athlonsports.com/college-football/grading-college-footballs-head-coach-hires-2018 1. Scott Frost A+ 2. Dan Mullen A 3. Chip Kelly A 4. Jimbo Fisher A- 5. Willie Taggart A- 6. Joe Moorhead B+ 7. Chad Morris B+
Yeah, that's not the list I remember. SI was not nearly as complimentary to the Aggies, but then several of their "better" choices have already left the tracks. https://www.si.com/college/2017/12/14/coaching-hires-grades-scott-frost-jimbo-fisher 1. Scott Frost 2. Chip Kelly 3. Jonathon Smith 4. Steve Campbell 5. Willie Taggart 6. Chad Lunsford 7. Mike Bloomgren 8. Dana Dimel 9. Dan Mullen 10. Joe Moorehead 11. Billy Napier 12. Chad Morris 13. Matt Luke 14. Sonny Dykes 15. Josh Heupel 16. Jeremy Pruitt 17. Sean Lewis 18. Mario Crystobal 19. Jimbo Fisher
Jimbo has the Aggies competitive most games..... but not near where I am sure the fan base wants em to be. Mullen has the Gators pretty damn close to where the fan base thinks the Gators should be.... and that is as an elite team competing for the national championship. Ed Orgeron pissed off some Georgia fans apparently by saying that the three hardest opponents his Tigers faced this year were Bama, Florida and Auburn.
Aggie fans are being patient as the roster is being rebuilt. And make no mistake... it is being rebuilt. We should be pretty salty in 2020, but 2021 will be the real litmus test when almost all of the roster are Jimbo's guys.
Da Coach O doesn't really give a damn about pissing off Georgia fans. That's a guy who no one has shown mercy to pretty much throughout his career. You can understand him not really caring about catering to the feelings of Georgia's fan base. Plus, he's a Louisiana guy.. Louisiana people do Louisiana things and although they are deeply Southern, they are also very different. They pride themselves on that. All he cares about is the LSU fan base and they like it that way. How often was Spurrier concerned about the feelings of Tennessee fans?
"How often was Spurrier concerned about the feelings of Tennessee fans?" Nada.... and that went double for Georgia fans....
Looks like Yurcich is going to Texas as an offensive/QB coach. Seems like Day suggested he find a more suitable coaching job? Apparently there was some dissatisfaction within the ranks by the coaching staff?
Bob Diaco, former ND DCoord, is the new Purdue DCoord. Stu just so you'll know his hair is perfectly coiffed!
Ohio State is hiring its new quarterbacks coach from within. Corey Dennis, who has been a member of Ohio State's support staff since 2015 and a senior quality control coach for the Buckeyes for the past two seasons, will be promoted to the full-time coaching staff to replace Mike Yurcich as quarterbacks coach, Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports reported on Wednesday morning. Ryan Day will continue to "remain heavily involved" with quarterbacks and still call plays, per Thamel. For those of you not close to our program, he is the son in-law of Urban Meyer. If he turns out to be half as good as Brian Hartline, WR coach, he will do great. Corey has been with the program for the past four years.
Kiffin has added D.J.Durkin to his Ole Miss staff. Durkin was the Maryland coach who was fired following the death of one of his players from Heat Stroke.
We hear the A&M TE coach Joe Jon Finley will be going to Ole Miss as well... Some family ties made this move happen. Sorry to see him go as he seemed to do a good job with our young guys. On the other hand, we hear OL coach Henson is heading to... Arizona to help not get it done like the rest of the staff out there. Rumor says he was "encouraged" to find a landing spot, and after seeing how or OL did not progress I can't say I have a problem with that.
Kiffin also hired Chris Partridge from Michigan. Both Durkin and Partridge are relentless recruiters and solid technical coaches although Durkin obviously has the cloud of the Maryland tragedy hovering over his head.
