Troy's Neal Brown to West Virginia. I don't know much about him, but I think Corey is really high on him. Could it be that it's a net gain for the Mountaineers??
Alex Grinch is leaving Ohio State to take over the defense at Oklahoma. I think Don had posted he thought Schiano might not be asked to be on Day's staff. Is that right Don?
West Virginia got a better football coach in Brown. Holgo is more fun though. Brown would win in a street fight though.
Scott, Oklahoma has all of the resources to have a good defense again. They'll have to commit to recruiting for it though. Apparently they're getting the right coach. Check mark for step one.
I think what Don hinted at awhile ago, that Greg Schiano wouldn't be retained as the DCoord has come to pass. Reportedly he is out and Michigan DL coach Greg Mattison will be the new DCoord. Mattison has sure been around. He was the Mich DCoord till Bob Davie his friend from A&M convinced him to come to ND and be the DCoord, he stayed at ND through the Willingham years not as DCoord, then when Urban Meyer went to Fla he was the UF DCoord, eventually leaving for the NFL till he was brought back to Ann Arbor by Brady Hoke, when Harbaugh came he was moved to the DL coach. Mattison at least in the past has always been a good recruiter.
Nothing official yet, but it looks like a done deal. I have mixed feelings about poaching in conference coaches. Rumour is that Al Washington will be moving from Michigan to Ohio State also?
This is a big surprise. The rumors on mgoblog was that Mattison was retiring as he is going to be 70 soon. Day was a GA at Florida when Mattison was their DC so there is a past connection. Given thar that the Bucks put 63 on the board against us, I wonder how the Buckeye fans are reacting. Also wonder if Harbaugh fatigue played a role in Mattison leaving.
Bobda, from what I have observed on the forums, sort of a mixed reaction. Fans have obviously not been happy with our porous defense, and allowing so many big plays. I am willing to wait and see what happens this coming season, before making a determination on the hire.
Now it looks like Al Washington, linebackers coach from Michigan is set to join the Buckeye staff as well. Washington is a Columbus Ohio native and I can see the lure of that one. I can not ever remember of two coaches being pulled from an arch rival in one season. Somehow that seems to bother me a bit.
Washington is friends with Day and is well regarded as a quality young coach and recruiter. Temple supposedly is interested in Don Brown as HC. Pretty wicked start to the offseason
Even so Bobda, I am not fond of poaching in conference coaches. Coach Meyer had too many friends for coaches in my opinion.
I just read that Kingsbury finalized the contract to become the Cardinals coach. With Rosen there, they're going to throw the ball 60 times.
