Wow, the southern accent must've gone over well with Max! LSU starting QB Johnson to enter transfer portal
LSU QB room is pretty thin right now that's for sure. They have a 5 star kid from close to the campus in Walker Howard coming at QB. That kid Garrett Nussmeier is the son of a NFL coach with the Cowboys. LSU in a pickle as he played enough this year that if he plays in the bowl game he'll lose his red-shirt. I guess they must have a walk-on or two that could play, or they could go wildcat. I also won't be shocked if they have all their kids who are entering the NFL draft opt out of the bowl game. It could be a very small roster if they play
Pitt lost it's OCoord, Mark Whipple, who just up and resigned yesterday. He didn't do it to take another job and it's a bit of a mystery why, as the Pitt offense was good this year with Billy Pickett developing into a Heisman contender and a possible NFL 1st round draft pick.
Good question, though until he resigned, he wasn't on the list of guys who were changing jobs or in the running for various other jobs. He had been a HC at UMass before the Pitt job, so maybe he resigned so he could spend December sending out resume's and working the interview circuit to see if he could get another HC job even if it wasn't a Div 1 job. Kelly hasn't hired either a DCoord or an OCoord as yet. He offered ND's Marcus Freeman and Tommy Rees but they declined to follow him to Baton Rouge.
Those are some nice pickups for Scott Frost as he rebuilds his staff. I liked the Pitt offense. Mickey Joseph was at LSU and was known to be an excellent recruiter. Don't know anything about Raiola except his brother was a longtime NFL OL.
I wonder if Brian Kelly is second guessing his move to LSU with his starting QB moving into the transfer portal?
Joseph was QB for NU back in the day. Raiola's bro was center for NU. Good NE connections. They know.
It hasn't been all bad news, he did get a guy (Frank Wilson) who was the HC at one of the smaller Louisiana schools to return to Baton Rouge and be his lead recruiter. He's been there before and always has been a great recruiter. So that will help him to start the replenishment of the roster with new talent. Some observers of LSU football that I know say that the QB was at best an average college QB. That if they had had a decent QB they would have beaten Alabama this year instead of just playing them close down to the wire.
...and if frogs had wings, they wouldn't bump their asses when they jump... Of course they said that. Truth is, they are in a world of hurt. Next year they are coming out with a VERY "new" team, and a QB with little experience and no experience behind him. I can tell you that can be a bad situation...
Main thing I remember about that game was the LSU QB thought he had 5 seconds to get rid of the ball, worst internal clock in a qb I think I've ever seen.
Yes he was a good OL for the Lions, played more than 10 years I believe and was a Neb OL. I think the younger one who Frost hired was a Wisconsin Badger. The curious hire was Whipple, he had a solid job at Pitt. But maybe he was looking at what was coming back and didn't see a Billy Pickett and figured it was time to take the money and run. I imagine he got a bump in salary and a guaranteed contract that protects him if things don't go better for Frost and he's fired.
