Saturday Down South rated Pete Golding the #1 DCoord in College! Ranking the Top 25 defensive coordinators in college football for 2021 1. Pete Golding, Alabama To be the best, you’ve got to beat the best, and after a few rough spots in 2019, Golding’s Tide defense took care of business against the top squads in 2021. Each of his first 2 Bama squads allowed fewer than 20 PPG, fewer than 4 yards per carry, and posted 32 and 35 sacks. Nick Saban likes him. Good enough for us.
Ha well Saban's opinion is the only one that counts! We just have had no consistency on defense. The same can be said of our offensive line too.
Dan Lanning, Georgia DCoord, is the next Oregon head coach. He is 35 and will be a first time head coach. I am a little confused by this statement by Kirby Smart. While he will coach with us for the upcoming College Football Playoff, we will move forward with Glenn Schumann and Will Muschamp as co-defensive coordinators. Dan and I are both looking forward to preparing for the CFP." Oregon hires Georgia's DC Lanning, 35, as coach
I guess Kelly and 5 star Qb Walker Howard think that this is a good idea. Seems a bit odd to me. Plus I wonder how this is even legal.
Was in Florida for my 66th High School reunion and to visit our two daughters and their families in Florida for just under two weeks. Got home last night. Just waded though this topic and found it very interesting. I see Tim got his man at Notre Dame and as I said earlier in this topic us Gators are very happy with the coach we signed. We don't expect big things next season but the majority of us think he is the right guy for us moving forward. I haven't seen anything about Dan Mullen landing somewhere. I was a big supporter of him for the first three years but totally agree with him having to go after this season.
In an odd assistant coach move, Texas after losing RB coach Stan Drayton to the HC job at Temple, pulled newly hired RB Coach from Lincoln Riley's staff at USC, Tashard Choice who Riley had hired only 3 weeks ago. He had been the RB coach at Ga.Tech, and was known for being a great recruiter before Riley hired him at USC. Didn't stay long. Not sure why he so quickly took the Texas job, I guess it could be that he will make more money and maybe he would rather live in Austin than LA.
Well Lincoln Riley just poached the A&M OL Coach. I imagine more money and the title of OCoord was the carrot.
Yep, getting a title and the pay that goes along with it when your boss really does the job is tough to pass up. Losing coaches to promotions seems to work for Nick, so I'm hoping it works the same for Jimbo.
Kelly starting to fill out his LSU staff, hiring long time friend and coaching associate, Mike Denbrock, as his OCoord. Denbrock and Kelly go all the way back to Grand Valley State, and he also coached with Kelly at Notre Dame, being replaced by Chip Long after the disasterous 2016 when there were major changes to the Irish staff. He's also hired the KC Chiefs LB coach to be the LSU DCoord.
Pitts success with Kenny Pickett and the passing game has made their staff attractive. Nebraska poached OCoord Mark Whipple and Texas is poaching the WR/Passing Game Coordinator.
I can't keep track of all this. I don't know who is the coach of what team anymore let alone the assistants.
There seem to be some credible stories that Harbaugh might take the Bears or Raiders HC job. Normally I would write off those stories as clickbait but after having had his salary cut in half last offseason and then winning the B10, I would not be shocked if he decided he accomplished all he could accomplish at M and jump to either team especially since he has strong ties to both the Raiders and Bears. NFL Rumors: Jim Harbaugh Could Leave Michigan; Raiders Linked as Landing Spot
Even with outcome of the Georgia game not being great, I thought maybe Harbaugh has turned things finally and M will start to challenge OSU annually like they did before Tressel took over.
