Three things stand out to me after watching that amazing Big10 championship game: 1. Ohio State clearly is the third best team in the B10 this season. What does that tell you about the strength of the conference? 2. They say that defense wins championships. If that's the case, you have to like Michigan State's chances. 3. Some folks denigrated Iowa's record because they didn't play Michigan State, Ohio State, or Michigan. Well, they proved tonight that they are for real. They went 15 rounds with one of the three and lost a close split decision. The other two should feel very fortunate that they didn't have to play them.
I sure havent heard much support for mccafrey, but he has had a monster year. (I do want to point out wazzu held him to only 136 yards total offense.)
 :!: I still can't analyze Iowa. They're the weirdest team I've ever seen. They didn't have a positive yard rushing in the second half, and last week, they didn't convert a 3rd down in the entire game. How were they doing it?
I would say that after watching that game and watching the OSU/UM game that Ohio State was the best B1G team this year, but for their offensive coaching staff going brain dead vs MSU. But that's the way the ball bounces and MSU won it all fair and square. If there was a "wild card" team like in the NFL playoffs it'd be Ohio State and I'd give them a better chance of winning it all than MSU. But there isn't. I didn't watch the end of the ACC Championship but apparently the ACC refs hosed UNC. I certainly hope the ACC does the right thing and censures and suspends the crew like they did the crew from the Miami game.
Excuses, excuses. Are you saying that MSU didn't deserve to win that game? Are you saying that OSU's failure to crack MSU's defense was because the coaches were brain dead? Think about that statement. You need to watch more good defensive teams. It's like saying MSU was lucky to beat Michigan, when they blocked a punt and ran it for the winning TD. Deal with it. MSU is the best team in the B10 this year. Period. As far as Iowa, we'll never know which team would win an OSU-Iowa matchup, but after watching the game last night, would not be surprised if Iowa would beat OSU the same way that MSU did. With defense. Unless of course the OSU coaches went brain dead again. P.S. think I can understand why you and others outside of the midwest react the way they do to the B10 standings and game results. It's hard to understand the effectiveness of blue collar, smash-mouth, defense-oriented football in this era of flash and dash. Other than Alabama in the SEC, I'm not sure there is a team or conference where rock solid defense rules the day.
Hahahaha.... ACC ref and hosed are synonymous. The head of the ACC office is in Greensboro, N.C. however so maybe this will get their attention.
Sid, MSU is the champs they won it fair and square. I just don't think they are the best team. But they certainly are the grittiest, determined not to lose team! Congrats to MSU. In sports the best team doesn't always win. But the win is all that counts.
OK, I'll keep it going! Michigan State was lucky to beat Michigan. Harbaugh went brain muerto. He didn't have to punt. He could have had the QB throw a bomb that would have used up all of the remaining time before it landed. BTW- Did you see the fake punt in the Clemson-North Carolina game? On a 4th and 15 from deep in his own territory, the Clemson punter thought he could make it. When he failed all hell broke loose. I thought his coach was going to kill him...
Well apparently the B10 is blocking the desire of the B12 to have a championship game with only a ten team conference. So I guess the next thing will be for the B12 to expand. It certainly won't be popular amongst the current schools, because it basically will mean that the pie gets split 12 ways instead of 10 and due to all the contracts we won't be able to attract a school with a good TV following. BYU I think would be a good addition, and I think Houston would be a good addition. Houston definitely would not bring more TV sets and while BYU would bring some it would be a lot. Boise State would be a good addition, again not going to move the TV needle but a good program with National recognition. Louisville would have been a good move but that's not happening now. Some have advocated for Cincinnatti, but inspite of them being a good size Midwestern City I don't really see much upside for them. They have a terrible stadium situation.
