Whoa I did not see this coming the Irish Ladies absolutely pummeled the Lady Boilermakers yesterday....66-38. Purdue had beaten Texas A&M at College Station which I figured meant that they were a legit top 12 team and it would be a tough test. I doubt however that Purdue is as bad as the score makes them look, just a bad match up for them and an off night. Next up for the Lady Irish is an unbeaten 10th ranked Kentucky squad next Saturday. Finals this week no games.
I watched the game. I was impressed by our speed and all-out scrappiness. Purdue did not know what hit them. It tells me that Baylor must be very, very good to beat us as convincingly as they did. I also watched the mens' IU-KY game. IU basketball is back. The Hoosiers showed yesterday that they can play with anyone in the country on their home court. Now they need to play at the same level away from home. Back to the main topic.
Bad news for the Irish, they play IU next week in the Cross Roads Classic in Indy. Purdue and Butler will be there as well.
Unfortunately, based on what each team has done so far, I have to agree. BUT you never know. As they say, that's why they play the games.
Whooop! The outside LB's like Ishaq and Niklas should be as huge and as fast as any the Irish have ever had. This should force more runs/short passes into the middle; which is Manti Teoville...
re: recruiting Probably the two best high school linemen in the state of California were on display (TV from Anaheim Stadium) Saturday night when Catholic school power Santa Margarita played San Clemente in the large schools (Div I) championship. Max Tuerk of SMHS has already committed to play for USC and they're hot after Murphy as well, who is also considering Notre Dame. Santa Margarita won the game, but 6'7" 300lb Kyle Murphy of San Clemente pancaked him and drove him around like a tricycle all night long. If you have any unlit candles laying around, fire them up for this kid. The Irish could use him. In his four years at SCHS, he has never given up a sack......ever.
Te'o <t>Can't say I'm surprised at Manti coming back. He's always talked about how important getting his degree. I know a lot of ND fans thought he would bolt for the NFL after the Kelly comment made after the USC game but I thought that was over hyped too. Regardless, he's coming back and I look for Eifert to do likewise.</t>
My understanding of the recruiting of Kyle Murphy is that the distance from home is a huge negative for the Irish and that they have not been able to get him to even visit. You'd think a good Irish kid like a Murphy would at least want to see what our campus was like. But he'll most likely stay on the west coast...Stanford, CAL, USC, Oregon. CAL supposedly had a great weekend with a bunch of west coast kids that ND covets, including Arik Armstead and expect most of them to commit. I don't get it about CAL, Tedford IMHO is overrated he has had some good teams, and had some excellent players but they just always end up losing a bunch of games that they shouldn't. Plus I don't see how commie/hippie infested Berkley would be attractive to football players.
I get the feeling that the Irish are trending up with OL recruits Josh Garnett and Ron Stanley. Garnett tweeted over the weekend that he had a great time at ND, and I guess he must be interested in pre-med as his host was Andrew Hendrix who carries a 3.5 in pre-med and let him know that ND pre-med have an 85% acceptance rate which impressed him a lot. I have heard many times that the ND undergrad curriculum was so well respected that the overall acceptance of ND grads into graduate schools of all kinds is very high.
Tyler Eifert was named 1st AA on the Walter Camp Foundation AA team. Manti Te'o was named 2nd Team AA.
Let's not forget that Cal was 3rd from last in graduation rate (54%) for bowl teams. Pretty pathetic for a school that has a noted academic reputation. I guess that they want to be the Michigan of the West.
Cal is worse than Michigan. Years ago, they were caught with players who couldn't read or write and in one case, (Chuck Muncie) the coaches (HC Mike White) were caught red-handed giving phony diplomas to kids so they would think that they had graduated...
