Cam Newton......the $200K kid?

nah 77 posts here from time to time.. just not often. I doubt he's ducking out.

So.. some jackhole was selling the services of a kid in the SEC.. this is the land of 'if you ain't cheatin, you ain't trying'... this is hardly news.

Let this all play out, there's really nothing else we can do besides speculate at this point. There is a LOT more smoke here than people realize, but it may well just be that.

Also, this stuff about Urban being the leak may well be true but would anyone really care? This is the SEC.. Jesus.. Phil Fulmer decided to go deep undercover and run a Matlock on the whole damned conference making secret deals with the NCAA.. all of which SHOULD be illegal, but technically aren't.. Nothing in this league shocks me.. nothing

 

Just got a little more complicated for Newton, it is now being reported that he was on the verge of being expelled for mulitple instances of academic fraud (cheating) when he bolted for Blinn.

 

Maybe that is why Urban Meyer has been relatively quiet about the situation?

 

I have felt all along there was more to Cam Newton leaving Florida than Urban just being a poor judge of talent or a poor salesman or communicator.

Urbs hasn't won all of the games he has and two NCs because he is a poor coach. There is more to the story of Newton leaving UF than we know imho.

It's a shame all of this has come up now, esp if it's all just rumours that will never be proven. I would think that the play for pay thing is going to be hard to pin on him, it took the NCAA 5 years to pin it on Reggie Bush. The academic fraud allegations are probably less difficult, and I noticed that his dad won't talk about those, while he has denied recieving any money or asking for any money.

Cam is a great college football player, and a lot of fun to watch. He's clearly one of the best in college this year, but if I were a Heisman voter I would be hesitant to give him my vote with this cloud hanging over his head.

 

Makes you wonder, doesn't it? The timing?

There's two programs who actually benefit from all this... One is at Florida and the other is the offensive guru who took his offense from Florida to Mississippi State.

 

To be honest I don't see how UF and/or MSU or anybody benefits from this or how they benefit from this. Sure maybe Mullen is pissed he went to Auburn, OK I could buy that...but still. On UF, hell the kid if the reports are true was gone from UF no matter what if for no other reason than expulsion for academic fraud, he wasn't going to be readmitted if he was expelled for that reason so what does Meyer have to gain in this whole thing.

Ever wonder if the guy who's now spouting off through his "former teamate at MSU" is pissed because he was supposed to get some money from where ever Newton signed and he didn't get anything because maybe no money crossed anybody's palms. Maybe he thought he had a deal, and the family stiffed him and he's pissed.

 

Hey Terry, you are way to logical and have a way of putting a wet blanket on conspiracy theories.

From what I read elsewhere I think it may well be true about Newton leaving for reasons other than just him wanting to leave.

However he left and did his time somewhere else. That is no reason to have him removed from the team or to deny him the Heisman. If any of the accusations about the $200,000 can be proved that is different. If they can't then again leave the kid alone.

The stuff about Florida benefiting from all this is hogwash.

Some area's just like to attack the Gators. I guess that's what comes from success.

It's a little weird to me that I watch the kid do a post-game interview on TV a couple weeks ago......and I noticed something about him I didn't like.

Of course I was vilified for being a jealous Gator, etc. but that wasn't it......I just had a gut feeling he had some issues. And I had no idea at the time of my comments of the academic cheating and possible expulsion from UF problem.

And now all of this that is coming out this week... 8)

Well I have to say that the perception was already there......from the stolen laptop incident.

And quite possibly I have always thought he left Florida for reasons other than a lack of PT.

Bill if all of these allegations prove to be true I would feel really badly for the kid, for this reason. It appears that he is being lead by people he trusted like his dad, like this man who operated as his "agent". Those people should have been protecting him by helping him make a decision on a school based on where he wanted to go, where was the best for him to go...not how much money they could have squeezed out of some booster.

 

Cam has his own issues.......the stolen laptop and cheating to the brink of expulsion.

He didn't "shoot the President" as Blobby would say......but he is no choir boy....ahem.....no Tim Tebow.... either. :wink:
