I feel worse for Braxton than for the football season. Ain't it funny how everyone kinda sorta knocked him as not being that great...until he's hurt and now there goes our entire season? I hope he gets fixed up and get's his career back. I read that there is a $1 million insurance policy on him if he is injured and can't play anymore...but that hardly protects what he would have been worth. I think we'll be fine...the odds just went down a little bit. Hopefully someone (Barrett?) steps up big time (and then what happens next year when Miller comes back??) One last thought; much better now than in, say, the third game of the season.
I'm not surprised that Miller will go for a Medical Redshirt after his surgery. He's spent his whole life playing football and I'm sure hoping that he'll get a shot at the NFL. While this is a set back for him for sure, I can certainly understand why he wants to continue to try and play. I guess the issue will be what happens if J.T. Barnett has a great year at QB for the Buckeyes? Would Miller be ok coming back as his backup, would Meyer say that the competition is open, or would he declare Miller the starter? If he can't be sure that he'll be the starter, and he only has one more chance at playing a whole season in college and showing the NFL that 1) he is healthy and 2) that he is worthy of being drafted then you have to wonder if he would graduate and go some where else where he would be more or less guaranteed to be the starter.
I think Miller's decision will be based solely on the talent level behind him on the bench. If one of those guys steps up and becomes an elite starter then I would bet Meyer would encourage him to move on. I don't think Meyer would want the added pressure and controversy of having Miller riding pine behind someone else.
Terry & Dave, Interesting question and mixed feelings on my part. If TJ has a good year and we would win the B1g TEN Conference, it would put a lot of pressure on Meyer. Being a realist,I doubt that particular situation will exist and Braxton would come back and step into his old spot. I am looking for a lot of speed bumps this season.
I've seen that jumper picture before but somebody had photo shopped Go on one toe and Sox on the other. I forget which bad outcome to the season that represented for Red Sox fans.
Going to be a lot of angst in the Longhorn Nation if J.T.Barnett has a great season and Tyrone Swoopes is a flop or just another smoe and is moved to TE. Whole article on the BurntOrangeNation about this. http://www.burntorangenation.com/recruiting/2014/8/20/6047367/jt-barrett-ohio-state-buckeyes-tryone-swoopes-texas-longhorns
Here is an old photo of former Buckeye players who all hailed from Dayton, Ohio like me! Several are still in the NFL. Name them. From L-R. Go!
