Jim Mora the UCONN, coach says schools are tampering with his players and he's going to expose them. I've read that the kids agents are calling around and shopping their clients for more NIL and playing time. So coaches don't have to contact the kids which is illegal. simple note to the schools and coaches that have blatantly broken @NCAAFootball rules by tampering with our players in the last 24 hours," Mora wrote Monday on X. "We do know who you are, we will pursue all avenues to hold you accountable. We are excited that we've built a program where coaches have to cheat to beat us and we will protect that program. Think hard before you tamper with our players." Mora later wrote in response to a post that he doesn't know how to fix the tampering issue in college football, but that "we will expose any program and coach that violates" NCAA rules. He added: "I'm 100 percent against grown men cheating the rules and teaching players horrible life lessons."
The NCAA rules are toothless. Good luck to him but the courts are making or rather unmaking the rules.
Good luck, Bob. Alabama has lost a lot of folks to the portal but only a couple had significant playing time this year so the impact of that should be minimal. I hate to say it, but I have become spoiled and if we are not playing for a National Championship, I mostly look at the bowl game as a chance to get additional practice time. I hope the team feels differently. Michigan may be a better team than their record indicates. If they had Indiana's schedule they might be in the playoffs.
Good point, Kyle. Let's take a closer look. Three of their 5 losses were to top ten teams: Texas, Oregon, and (drum roll) INDIANA. A 4th loss was to Washington, a team Indiana beat 31-17. They did beat Ohio State, the team responsible for Indiana's only regular season loss, so there's that. The question is, if they didn't have to play the 3 top ten teams plus Washington and #22 Illinois, would at least 4 of those 5 losses have been replaced by wins? I guess we'll never know. It's kinda like Alabama. If they hadn't lost to Vanderbilt and Oklahoma, would they have been in the CFP? Of course. There certainly are a ton of ifs this past season, as there are every season. Whew! It's early morning, and I already have used my quota of thinking for the day.
Sid, I see what you’re saying but I also think there is a cumulative effect of playing several quality teams over the coarse of the season. Having to be at the top of your game over and over, I think, takes a toll. Anyway, I think Michigan may be much better than their schedule indicates. Hopefully, for me, the Alabama that played the first half against Georgia shows up and not the Alabama that played against Oklahoma.
Kyle, I agree with what you've said, about Michigan being better than their schedule indicates and about having to be consistently at the top of your game. No question. As close as you are to the AL program, know that I, like many others, were mildly shocked to see the consistently strong Alabama program kind of come back to earth this past season. I think it speaks to the uniquely great coaching of Nick Saban and the old adage, nothing lasts forever. In time, perhaps next season, I expect Tide football to return to at or near the top of the heap. In the meantime, I'm thankful for ND's progress this season and hope we can continue to grow in an upward direction.
Yeah, as much as I would love for Alabama to be in the hunt every year, it is probably better for the game if there is a (hopefully temporary) changing of the guard.
Thanks KP. We are down at least 6-7 starters who either are preparing for the NFL draft or entered the portal. But, hopefully those who are playing will put up a fight against a more talented team.
Appears to be heavy rain in Tamps this afternoon. Two turnovers by the Tide has Michigan in the lead early on.
Our defense is playing pretty well. After 3 turnovers deep in our own territory we’re lucky to be down by 9.
kp, I am always reluctant to bet against the Tide, but this simply was not Bama's day. That defensive front for Michigan is very tough. Thy certinly handled us without any problem as well.
Between thd opt outs for the "NFL" and the kids who have hit the portal, it's hard to put much on these bowl games. But for the SEC the optics aren't good. Of course if we are talking about the optics, the ACC has had a disastrous bowl season.
Well I'm calling it, Penn State is going to road stomp Boise State. So far Boise can't stop the Nits and the PSU defense has the edge on Boise State.
