....that's what they said about Cincinnati,,,, In any event I am not saying they couldn't compete in the SEC but it wouldn't be an annual...."hey look at me...I belong in the BCS bowl refrain." Example......Penn St rolled through it's schedule before joining the Big 10....having to get ready for only 2 or 3 tough opponents every season and filling in the rest with WAC type teams or worse. In other words......I've seen this movie before....
Florida has about 8-9 possible opponents in this top 25 recruiting list from yesterday but I don't see any annual opponents for Boise on there: 1 Florida 28 4 18 5 3.89 2,938 2 USFC 18 5 12 1 4.22 2,732 3 Texas 25 2 19 4 3.92 2,728 4 Auburn 32 3 13 13 3.50 2,485 5 Alabama 26 1 15 9 3.62 2,308 6 LSU 29 1 15 13 3.59 2,255 7 Oklahoma 29 0 16 13 3.55 2,213 8 UCLA 24 1 13 10 3.63 2,171 9 Tennessee 25 1 12 9 3.44 2,048 10 Florida State 24 2 8 14 3.50 1,953 11 California 19 2 7 10 3.58 1,875 12 Penn State 20 0 12 7 3.55 1,852 13 Oregon 23 1 10 9 3.39 1,851 14 Notre Dame 23 0 10 12 3.39 1,618 15 Texas A&M 23 0 9 13 3.35 1,587 16 Georgia 19 0 9 9 3.42 1,581 17 Ole Miss 25 0 8 16 3.28 1,554 18 Clemson 23 0 9 13 3.35 1,551 19 West Virginia 21 1 5 13 3.24 1,533 20 Michigan 27 0 6 20 3.19 1,479 21 Missouri 23 0 7 16 3.30 1,446 22 Virginia Tech 21 0 6 15 3.29 1,430 23 Nebraska 21 0 8 10 3.24 1,407 24 Miami 28 0 6 18 3.07 1,347 25 South Carolina 23 1 5 11 3.04 1,342
recruiting ratings mean jack ****. ND signed a kid that was a ZERO star recruit. The kid commits to ND, he's now a 2 star prospect. Don't tell me that crap is reliable. The guys who are 'gurus' in this know jack **** about sports or talent evaluation. They perpetuate the myth. Also, look at teams like Auburn... 30something kids signed, high ranking.. but their average 'star' rating isn't that great esp compared to other teams in/near the top. You know who I do see on that list? Teams that are/were beaten by Boise and teams that are avoiding them. Pick up the phone. Stop talkin and start walking.. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/_kkPeEGlJgY&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/_kkPeEGlJgY&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Corey, I don't think you believe that recruiting rankings mean nothing. For sure individual rankings can be suspect and a player signing for a Florida or a Notre Dame frequently leads to being upgraded. However I also think that over a long period of time it has pretty well proved out that getting higher star players generally result in better teams. Not on an individual basis, but an over all basis. And I am sure you know that.
I 'd like to see Boise play tougher teams including SEC. But home and home would be a condition and that would thin out the southern herd significantly.
What if it went the other way. What if Georgia or Tennessee went to the WAC? Would they finish 3rd or 4th?
Kp, I'm positive those SEC teams couldn't handle the pressure of playing that WAC schedule week after week.
The jury is still out on Tennessee, KP. I bleed orange so much the blood bank refuses my blood donation on visual alone. However, I am a realist in the fact that I must see how the newly revised Tennessee system functions. I am optimistic but not betting the farm any time soon. 8)
We will have a QB that is starting in his first game under a new offensive coordinator under a new head coach. That is too many uses of the word "new" to be certain of anything. Give us a year to come together and I will have more confidence. Yes, I THINK we could but I am not sure of anything at this point. That is the realist in me.
