Well it certainly doesn't seem to be likely that Alabama will be in decline. They have an awesome recruiting class coming in and they just stole the #1 Defensive player away from Brady Hoke and Michigan yesterday. So more talent is in the pipeline. Of course all bets are off once Saban leaves for Texas!
Chris Petersen leaving Boise State for Washington. It will be interesting to see if he breaks the mold of guys leaving their success at Boise State and falling flat at their next job. Also what happens to Boise State going forward, Corey has made the point that Chris Petersen is what made Boise State what it is today and not those other guys, so he's finally gone. Back to what they used to be?
ND <t>O.K., I really don't want to weigh in on the Boise State/Peterson/SEC conversation but.......FYI, it appears that there is a strong possibility the Irish may be playing Boise St. in the poinsettia bowl. Sorry if I interrupted the train of thought on this one.</t>
re: Boise going back to what they used to be. Let's hope they don't fall that far down. They used to be a junior college...
Plot thickens....Boise State is talking to Dirk Koetter about returning as Head Coach. But without Chris Petersen will he be any good? 8)
Probably not. Peterson was recruiting 1st round draft pick OLs at Boise. I'm a little fearful of what he might do at Washington. For those of you Seattle-ites who long for the day of crushing defense, power running and exciting play-action passing to fire up the air raid siren, I think your day is coming soon. This is going to bring Chris Peterson into Los Angeles, San Diego and the Inland Empire in a mighty nice ride. Those 3 areas were the backbone of those great Washington teams. Las Vegas will be on the table as well. I have 2 buddies who went to Dub and one played for Don James. They are both 'crap your pants excited' about the hiring of Peterson. They really believe they have the next Don James, or maybe better. We'll see. People forget the days when Washington was the bad ass tomb raiders of the pacific northwest (well, not Kes but the rest seem to).. People seem to forget that when the only teams who seemed plausible to compete with the Miami Hurricanes were all in the NFC, it was the Washington Huskies who walked into the Orange Bowl and ended Miami's record sitting 58 game home winning streak. When Miami started another incredible run of home victories, the Huskies walked right back into the Orange Bowl and beat them again. Washington used to be insane. They'd go play you at your place and not expect a game in return. Growing up as a kid in SoCal, you're aware of that...or at least you were. You know the guys at SC and UCLA HATED playing up there in Seattle. You also saw the respect people around the conference had for the Huskies because they were a tough, hit you in the mouth and take no **** kind of team.
oh, oh, oh, do you remember the one about the 2000 ACC champion (FSU) who lost to the 2000 Big East Champion (Miami) who lost to the 2000 P10 champion (UW)? They all ended up with one loss with FSU ranked #2, Miami ranked #3, and UW ranked #4. Yeah, I do, too.
Doesn't 8-7 indicate something about as fluid as your statement? I don't agree that the SEC #2 was always playing the #2 from other conferences in BCS Bowls. Louisville certainly was #1 in it's conference as was Utah..... two of the bigger upsets. Otherwise Big East champ Miami beat Florida in the Sugar Bowl..... and I am sure there are others if I could remember them.
Well it won't be Dirk Koetter coming home to Boise State, it will instead by former BSU and UT OCoord and current Ark State HC Byron Harsin. I wonder if he'll hire Brent Pease as his OCoord now that he's out at Fla?
I think that's a decent question. I was wondering if Peterson was thinking of hiring him, as well. Something tells me the situation at Florida isn't about the OC OL coaches sucking as much as it did them being interfered with. I mean, if you look at Pease's offenses in the past, they didn't look anything like what Florida put on the field.
Anything is possible with these putrid offenses that Muschamp has been putting on the field. Hell.... he made Charlie Weis look like a high school defensive coordinator.
Here is a link to all-time bowl results in the Alliance/BCS era: http://www.bcsfootball.org/news/story?id=4809856 In just looking at BCS bowls the SEC's #2 has played in 9 games as follows: 1 game was SEC#1 vs. SEC #2 1 game was vs. ND 1 game was vs. against another conference's #2 6 games were SEC #2 vs. the #1 from another conference. And yet Kes you are saying the SEC #2 should have showed significant dominance?
