Tigers come back and get a walkoff with 2 out in the ninth vs. the Tribe bullpen.....UNBELIEVIBLE.....I guess. (doesn't everybody do that?)

Last night I decided to watch Baseball tonight to see how they reported the Tiger win since it was a pretty exciting game.
In the first 5 minutes, we got to see that the Yanks and Red Sox won since those are the only teams that ESPN follows. I then spent the next 20 minutes listening to them discuss a bunch of .500 NL teams who are all fighting like starved jackels over the wildcard crumbs. I finally turned it off and went to sleep.
While some think that they may be fun to watch, it looks like the national media would rather cover the SD Padres.
BTW, I have nothing but respect for Jim Leyland. He expects and has gotten 9 innings of fight from his team. I watch him go to the mound to talk to these young pitchers and you just know he's got them focusing and playing smart. Early in the year the team lost an afternoon game before a West Coast road trim and he shut the door to the clubhouse and read them the whatfor for not playing hard. They've been a different team since. They've got the pitching depth to win their division but I'm not sure that they've got the top line pitchers with experience to go deep in the playoffs.
They're making a ton this season playing to sellout after sellout. They might be able to keep their stars and compete in the free agent markets.

    Gip,

I've been a NL fan my entire life, but I love what's happening in Detroit. I swear Jim Leyland reminds me of vintage Clint Eastwood with that steely serious look when he walks to the mound. I can understand why he has won big almost everywhere he's been. The players must want to walk on coals for him.

P.S. I don't have to tell you that the talking head whores say what they are told to say by the big-ass brass at ESPN and similar sports talk networks.

I'm still in denial about everything that's happening with the Tigers. They're just an old-fashioned tough baseball team built around pitching, a buncha whiz kids, a crusty old manager and a charismatic, Hall of Fame catcher who's leading them all to the Promised Land. The movie will be much better than the TV coverage...

Pudge is great, he practically carried my Marlins at some points to their title back in 03'

74 wins, wow. I really hope you guys take down those yanks/redsoxs and represent the AL in the world series. Unlike them, you wouldnt have to buy your team to get their.

    Welcome to the board, Swampy.

Your Marlins have been at both ends of the spectrum. First there was the mercenary '97 team (with only two original Marlins) that won it all, but then held a fire sale after selling a butt-load of season tickets for '98. Now the Marlins are the lowest payroll team in baseball at $15MM, happily collecting a welfare check from the higher-salaried teams while averaging under 13,000 tickets sold per game.

    Go Fish!

For a team that was predicted to lose over 120 games, their not doing half bad. All of us marlins fans had our hopes up after getting 2/3 from the mets and only being 3 or 4 games out of the WC, but reality then set in after the dodgers finished sweeping us today

Swamp, you'd better hope that the Marlins' owner does not chase Girardi away. It looks like the owner is trying to be the south Florida version of Mark Cuban. I'm sure there are several clubs who would love to have Girardi as a manager after the job he's doing this year..........

Their were reports that their was going to be a press confrence to announce a firing or a resignation of girardi. Who knows what happened, it was just a rough time after being embarrased by L.A. ( who btw is on a tear). Girardi then said that everyone was just frustrated with how the game went, umps etc. and that he plans on staying with the marlins for a long, long time.
