Terry, AL record is 20 games by the 2002 "Moneyball" A's. NL record is 21. (1935 Cubs) Unofficial record is 26 games (1916 New York Giants) but that includes a tie so is unofficial.
Well if the Astros can't make it, I'll be rooting for the Indians to make it to the WS and win it, and right now I can't see the Astros even making it past the 1st round.
After being swept by the Brewers over the weekend, the Cubs maintain a scary slim 2 game lead over the Cardinals. AJ has to be licking his chops at the potential for the Cards to move up. This is the only close race for 1st in the 3 NL divisions.
Cardinal's and Cubs have 7 games against each other in Sept including a 4 game series at St. Louis the last week of the season. Could get interesting to say the least!
Justin Verlander had an 2nd excellent outing last night vs the Angels. Went 8 innings, shut them out on 1 hit. So far so good. Now the rest of the staff has to kick it up a notch for the final few weeks of the season and get ready.
Tribe extends their streak to 20 games as they once again dump on the Tigers. Besides the Tigers, the Indians have beaten 14 major league teams during their streak.
  Dodgers win 2nd in a row. The magic number is now 7. Bellinger splashed a HR into McCovey Cove. This was HR #37, one short of Frank Robinson's 1956 rookie record, with Frank Robinson himself in attendance. It's amazing that Bellinger even got the opportunity. Frisco manager Bruce Bochy intentionally walked him in every game of the series. Yesterday, he was intentionally walked three times in one game. Watch for the Dodgers to pick up another power bat in the off season to bat behind him...
There is another rookie phenom hitting home runs at a record pace, the Phils Rhys Hoskins has hit 17 hrs in his first 33 games. He was called up Aug 10th. At that pace he would have also beaten Frank Robinson's record but he's got too late a start.
Now it's 22. Tribe down a run in the 9th..down to their last strike and Lindor doubles to tie it up. In the 10th Ramirez turns a pretty obvious single into a double with incredible hustle...then Jay Bruce knocks him in to win the game.
The Indians and their remarkable streak are almost enough for me to watch baseball once again!
The magic number is 6 as the Dodgers defeat Washington 7-0. Four Dodgers have now hit 20 or more HRs after Seager and Turner's HRs tonight. Taylor and Grandal have 19 each, so it's possible the team could finish with six players at 20 or more HRs for the first time. That's three wins in a row, so they appear to be back on track... No surprise to me that the other teams doing well are Cleveland, Houston and Arizona. Those are VERY good teams... The surprises have been the Cubs, who should have performed better, and Frisco who completely collapsed... The Yanks, Rockies and Angels are close to being very good, but I think they're a year away...
The Streak is over, what a great run by the Indians or as Mike would say..the Win-dians! Now they have to still finish strong, can't be exhausted by the streak and the pressure to maintain and now go into a tailspin at the end of the year. Astros are down to mid single digits to clinch the division. Cubs handled the Cardinals easily tonight.
Loudest applause you'd ever hear for a loss last night. Minny lost...magic number is 2. Kipnis and Miller may be back this weekend. Brantley and Chisenhall don't seem to be healing. I'm going up to the game tomorrow.
