Tom......this is obviously the hottest topic in college football until BCS selection Sunday. And there will be many opinions.....and changes of opinions as teams win and lose. As you know the media will not "rest the case" either.....heck it's all they will talk about. It is a debate waiting to happen and by golly....wouldn't you know that not everyone agrees with everyone else on it. Imagine that!
I'm telling you as the current BCS National Champion, I vote wholeheartedly for a playoff. 8 teams is fine.
I vote for a plus one....after the bowls format. That leaves out team #5.......but rarely does team #5 have any sort of legitimate beef except that they would want another chance to make amends for past failures that season. A plus one also heightens interest in the two bowl games played by the top 4 teams. Yes.....the bowls still work because they are played at neutral sites with decent weather. The NC game should be in a neutral site bid on by cities......sort of like the NFL does it.
Well Alabama just took one player out of the controversy....Alabama! It could be worse...I'm glad I'm not a Utah fan.
Wow....a dominating performance on the road against a very good football team. Those that hold the view that TCU is unworthy of playing for the title just hasn't seen them play I guess.....or afraid to play them?!
If Oregon or Auburn go down then I see TCU in the Championship game. They may make it anyway but the computer polls are not their friend.
TCU should NOT be in the NC game. Last year, they beat Utah even worse: 55-28. Then they were defeated, this year, by Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl. That same Boise team returns their entire roster. I believe that they graduated exactly one player...
JO'Co, I'm not suggesting that Boise shouldn't be......I'm not so sure that Boise and TCU aren't the two best teams in the country. But one thing that I AM certain of is that they are good enough to play anybody and beat them and thus worthy of playing for the title.....those are two damn good football teams...
 This is probably the last year that everyone has to argue about it. Next year, Boise and TCU will both play each other in the newly revamped Mountain West Conference. This should begin a new, yearly big game battle...
Well....since I jinxed Alabama to hell and back from talking em up so much ( sorry Kp ) if either Oregon or Auburn loses then this will be the year that we see a Boise/TCU championship game contender. In fact.....I would rather enjoy it. My gut feel is they fail on that national stage because they will run into a team just as highly motivated as they are and will be playing a team that has more depth and experience playing tough opponents. I say bring it on.....let's see it. All it takes is a Bama win over Auburn which certainly doesn't look all that probable at the moment.
Reece is a Bama homer if ever there was one.. a KA from The University of Alabama, a Muscle Shoals grad and about as nice a guy as you'll meet. That being said.. "The most significant regular season in college sports" is only one half the statement.. The thought is incomplete. The other half of that statement should be 'and the most insignificant post-season'
ps Auburn is the worst defensive football team to be in NC contention this late in the game since UCLA in the late 90s. They are terrible. Alabama has some sort of chemistry issue going on and no one is sure what's wrong there. That loss to LSU was awful. The Tide should hang their head after that.. LSU is a team they shouldn't lose to. The SEC East is just awful.. I know people kick around the idea of Georgia beating Auburn, but I don't see it. Hell, Georgia couldn't stop Big12 doormat (and soon to be Pac10 doormat liner) Colorado... This is the team front running the East? Jesus... i Florida has undeniable physical talent but no real identity at all. You could put that offense on a milk carton but no one would recognize them. The last team to beat Boise was?? I believe TCU... the last team to beat TCU was??? Boise... Boise had beaten Oregon both home and away in each of the two previous seasons.. If you dismiss that, then I suggest you saddle up and go riding into Autzen yourself. Both TCU and Boise can be beaten... but I don't see Auburn being the team to do it... Oregon has the speed and tempo to beat them, but the problem is that both Boise and TCU have defensive speed to line up and run with Oregon. (I ain't kidding). The 1 team that I thought posed tremendous problems for both Boise and TCU was Alabama because of their offensive balance and ability to control the ball.. They're gone now. This should be interesting down the stretch. Someone will most likely get hosed here. How about a Oregon TCU title game with Boise being on the outside looking in.. The way Oregon gets to the title game is by NOT playing Boise this year.. ahhh yes.. the most meaningful regular season in college sports... yawn
Auburn vs. Alabama had looked to be one helluva regular season finale with all sorts of NC implications. Might still be the case........might not if Georgia's offense plays to it's considerable potential this Sat. RE the SEC East: I think UF's offense has turned a corner.....I think. If so the Gators are suddenly a much more complete team and if they can beat SouCar and hopefully FSU at the end of the season they might build momentum and have a decent shot at whomever reps the West in Atlanta.
Corey, I've had similar thoughts.....I'm not sure how many scoreboards they'll need if Auburn and Oregon win out and play for the title but that would be one helluva track meet....
Since Corey brought up Nic Costa....he's now out for the season..AGAIN...with another injury. This one he suffered as a holder when he bobbled the snap on a FG attempt. This has to be the unluckiest kid ever!!
I hear ya Corey....Georgia is just not a very good football team no matter how you cut it.....fascinating how in the SEC, lousy football teams have "considerable potential" in other conferences they are "slop".
Georgia is a much better football team now....with AJ Green back.....and with Murray more experienced.....than they were in the beginning of the season. Probably still not good enough to beat Auburn but I like CFN's prediction of Auburn 34 Ga 31. It should be a great game to watch because the defenses of both will not stop the other's offense.
