Bill....I understand the way the system works very well and I also know the pitfalls of the computers. But knowing how the computers work makes me very confident about UF because of the strength of FSU and most especially Bama in those computers. The current Fla ranking doesn't bother me a bit.
I don't think so. Meanwhile Oklahoma will be playing teams that are chopped liver like Oklahoma State and Missouri in the Championship game, if they make it. And Texas will be playing Texas A & M and Missouri if they make the Championship game. That's good that you don't let things like this bother you.
Bill.....only one of those two teams will be Big 12 Champ having beaten Missouri....not both of them. Florida only needs to play one of them for the BCS Title......get it?
Wow, gee MCG I am so gratified that you clarified that for me, it's something I never thought of. Now back to the issue at hand. To get by them we need a significant shift in either the voters or the computers. That will likely happen if we do our business, I'm putting it at about 70/30 that it happens. By your arguments it's obvious that you put it at 100% Which is ridiculous. But the odds are in your favor that you would be right and then if it does happen you can claim that it was 100% all along.
Dave, do you ever sit back and wonder WHY people come back at you with such venom and sarcasm? You might become a very popular person here if you would: 1) Consider other people's opinions 2) Understand that other's don't share your enthusiasm for the Gators 3) Put yourself in the other person's shoes before engauging your keyboard. You have a lot to offer this board if you could ever get along with others. So, here is my next sarcastic remark: Did your elementary school report cards have a lot of comments about getting along with others?
Well...the Gators are #2 in the Harris and #3 in the coaches. If UF wins over #20 FSU and #1 Bama...BIG if as I have stated before...but if they do.... then it stands to reason with those two victories that UF would be #1 in the Harris and most likely #1 in the coaches poll but even at #2 in the coaches there would almost have to be no movement at all in the computers or maybe even a drop in that ranking for UF not to be at least top 2 in the BCS. Remember all 3 polls are equally weighted so it doesn't seem 30% likely that the computers would penalize Florida for beating consensus #1 Alabama and BCS #20 FSU. Maybe you see it as likely but the math isn't there for me.
Two things MCG, they year USC was left out your example is exactly where USC stood, at least that is the way I recall, and they were left out.' Second, you told my how much you understood the system, but you clearly do not understand that the computer one third can have a bigger effect that either of the voting polls because of the way it is set up. Three, you continue to make an argument about what you think is going to happen against people that are saying there is a CHANCE that it may happen. Fourth, put a percentage on the chance that you could be wrong and Florida could finish 3rd if they win out. I guess that was four things not two!
Whoa...last I looked 1/3 is one third....nothing more nothing less. http://collegefootball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=864127 I do wonder who is it in the mainstream media...( other than Longhorns Today ) that is saying there is a chance for OU vs. Texas. I guess if Florida stumbles badly and wins by a refs bad decision over FSU and Bama gets clobbered by Auburn and then Florida stumbles....gets ref help vs. the Tide then maybe there would be human poll sentiment to vote Okla in over Fla but the computers....yes those doggone computers wouldn't know any difference how Florida won those two games and would think the gators were just plain dominant....that's why I hate the way the computers work. In any event if anything happened to create a strongly negative human view of the Gators then there would be a chance they didn't make it if they went 2-0. Chances of that?.......probably <10%
No chance of that. We all know that Florida always gets screwed by the refs but I will say that we have not heard about it as much lately!
Which just goes to show you that you don't understand the system as well as you might lead us to believe. In the case of Florida, Texas and Oklahoma the 1/3 for the computer polls is having much more of an effect. And the computer 1/2 is calculated different than the 1/3 each for the two voter polls and has the potential to put much more difference between the two teams. It's a math thing.
I could see the computer 1/3 having a bigger impact than the other thirds if it was appreciably harmful but after next week it may actually help Florida instead of hurt.
With a victory over FSU I see us as still 4th come Sunday. By the way the computers didn't help us against Michigan in 2006, we were tied in the computer polls with them.
The race for the last BCS at large spot will be interesting. If Oregon beats Oregon State, then USC is in the Rose Bowl and the Pac10 won't get a 2nd team. That means ACC 1 team BE 1 team SEC 2 teams B12 2 teams B12 1 for sure Pac10 1 team Mtn West 1 team The 10th team will either be Ohio State or Boise State. With the at-large selections there are no rules, they don't have to take the higher ranked team, they don't have to take the "most" deserving team. All they have to do is take the team that in their opinion will give them the best match up and best attendance and best TV ratings. Should be interesting... been a long time since Ohio State hasn't been in a BCS bowl, but I would imagine that Boise is about to get punked. I can feel Corey's angst as I type !!
I think you are right about the computers on Sun. but 4 plus 2 plus 3 is an average of 3. Beat Bama and it's 1 plus 2 plus 3 at worst...average of 2 at worst.
I'm good with 1 Pac10 team this year. I honestly don't believe we're very good this year and I sincerely believe that if you were 'grading' teams, that Oregon State is really the 3rd best team in the conference... in terms of talent etc. I am NOT good with an undefeated Boise State being left out for Ohio State. I could stomach it a bit more if there was a media backlash or outcry that an 'overrated' Ohio State was going in place because of their name (ala the Notre Dame b*tching of *insert year here*) Boise State being underestimated just boggles the mind. Sure people can say that this year isn't the team from 2 years ago. At the same time, this is a team that soundly beat Oregon at Autzen (lead 34-13 at one point, before Oregon made it respectable late). It's just a shame. I can't stand the fact that we have a built in caste system that keeps more than one-half of Division I from playing for it all.
Boise State has a good track record and so does Utah. But I also remember last year when an unbeaten Hawaii team was in way over their head against Georgia. It's a mixed bag as far as I am concerned and some choices are going to be made as to who will travel and who people will watch on tv.
Hawaii hadn't shown what Boise did this year, or the year they won out, or the year Utah went. Last year, someone (georgia? ucla?) bought out a game with Hawaii that could have given us a much better look at them. Boise just destroyed a Fresno State team that isn't great or even good by Fresno standards, but Fresno played people tough all year long, winning some games (Rutgers, UCLA, Toledo) while dropping others close (Wisconsin, LA tech)
Corey, I like watching Boise State. If they are on at a time where I can watch without missing the Gators or another team that I really want to watch I turn them on. But if they were to really replace a team from the BCS it should be the ACC or the Big East. That is if you are talking quality.
