Haven't seen much sentiment for a Big 12 rematch Bill with a 12-1 Florida available. Also...back when Gonzo was in the denial you mention I remember that most media types did specifically talk about the possibilty the Canes could be outside looking in.
Sentiment has nothing to do with it MCG, the computer polls have everything to do with it and I haven't found a sentimental computer yet. Like I say the odds favor what you say but there is more than a little chance that you could be wrong.
THERE IS NO SENTIMENT FOR AN ALL BIG 12 REMATCH. (Not even among fans of the league.) Bill is merely pointing out that it is POSSIBLE in the current system.
Without Big 12 rematch sentiment the computers would have to overcome the voters of both polls....which would have Florida as #1 in each. I think after FSU and #1 Bama are added to the Florida computer rating that it doesn't matter anyway. jmho
Terry...I am not saying that Florida would deserve #1 over Texas. I am saying that the voters in the polls who do not want a Big 12 rematch will vote Florida #1 just to keep that from being implemented by the computers if it looks possible that they could.
The computer polls were developed to reduce the afffect or the emotional human polls in the task of choosing a national champion. So, MCG, you are advocating that the flawed humans should counteract the legitimacy of the computerized polls by inflating the position of the Gators to eliminate an otherwise rational national title game?
Tom...the computers themselves are not the end all or that's the only method we would use to determine the title game participants. The computers do not have any subjectivity that the voters can inject into the equation and some of that is a necessary ingredient rather just quantitative analysis. There are many factors such margin of victory, questionable calls etc. that the computers do not take into account. Florida came within a whisker of not losing to Ole Miss but with most of the computers if not all they may as well have beat the Gators like a drum.....or like OreSt beat USC. The human voters know how close the Ole Miss-UF game actually was.
Well the Quizz is out for the Oregon/Oregon State game. That is very bad news for the Beavers and very good news for USC.
A couple of FSU WR were in Jail again...but Bobbah says they've been punished enough and will play against the Gators.
But the fact is that they did lose! Let me ask you Dave, is it better to lose three games to the #23, #24, and #25 teams by one point each or to lose one game to the #1 ranked team by twenty points? Of those two teams, which one would be more deserving of the higher ranked bowl game? The Gators lost to Ole Miss, which at the time was unranked. Ole Miss who is a 4 loss team that lost to Wake Forest, a 5 loss team. Ole Miss, a 4 loss team that lost to Vandy, a 5 loss team that lost to Tennessee, a 7 loss team. Go compare that to Texas and then try to justify Florida being ranked ahead of Texas.
Don't really get your comparisons....Fla smoked Vandy in Nashville. In any event Texas is very worthy....but they need to win their conference.
You never do when they don't support your argument. Let me spell it out for you. You lost to a p-i-t-i-f-u-l Mississippi team. It doesn't matter by what margin. You lost to a team that at best will be 8-4 this year, maybe 7-5. Texas lost to a highly ranked Texas Tech that has only one loss this year. Tech only needs to beat Baylor in Lubbock to finish 11-1. You do the math on which one, Texas or Florida, has a better claim to the #1 spot. To me, when there is a three way tie between 1 loss teams in one division of a canference, the winning of tie breaker rules is just a formality. To me, three different teams won the South division of the Big 12. The two that do not get to go to the championship game should not be penalized. If the BCS ranking is there, they should go to the championship game.
Ole Miss is most likely in the Cotton Bowl and the SEC rep has won the Cotton Bowl in 4 of the last 5 years.....and yet you call the Rebs pitiful.. Oooooo...K
OK Dave, You give us a word that describes the team that beat you when comparing then to the team that beat Texas. If Texas Tech was to play Ole Miss, what would be the outcome?
Where did I say or imply that Ole Miss was a better team than Texas Tech or the loss to Ole Miss was equal to a loss to Tex Tech? I am just refuting your description of Ole Miss as "pitiful". If the Rebs are pitiful then Alabama must be just a little above pitiful because they barely beat the Rebs. I think you see my point. Hopefully Florida will get the chance to play Texas....that would be great. In the interim unless Texas gets to play for the Big 12 Championship they could be screwed wrt to playing for the national championship.
MCG, if Ole Miss draws Tech in the C bowl, I suspect your little win streak will come to a screeching halt.
MCG, just to answer your question about the voting polls and the computer polls. Indeed the computers can improve a teams position by two levels. In fact they are doing so right now with Texas. Also I believe the year LSU played Oklahoma for the BCS Championship that USC was first in both polls and dropped to 3rd with the computers. Study the math and you will see how that is possible.
