Making those rules for the Mid-Major conferences has turned out to be a stroke of genius for the BCS. It gives them a potential cinderella story every year. Some times it works out, like Boise State/OU and some times Cinderella turns into a pumpkin like UGA/Hawaii. But it's worth it.
Nonsense. When is the last time any of those teams beat Oklahoma? protip: Iowa State in 1990..who has beaten OU once (that game in 90) since 1961. This year Boise smoked an Oregon team that is pretty damned good and they did it at Autzen. You can't tell me that the ACC and Big East are better than the Mountain West conference..The games on the field just don't play it out.
BTW-what is Cinderella's record in BCS games? This year we will have an unbeaten Utah and a potentially unbeaten Boise State... but Boise will most likely be left out. This system sucks.
So Corey who do you think Sagrin has ranked as the best conference? I'm sure it would surprise no one that according to him the ACC is the best conference. Big 12 second, SEC third, Big 10 forth, Big East fifth and Pac 10 sixth. On these type computer rankings the BCS participants will be decided. Sagrin Conference Rankings
This week one of those ACC teams has my attention...The Seminoles. I know they are inconsistent so hopefully this is one of their off weeks.
I think the Sag is a bit daffy. It has nothing to do with the pac10's ranking this year in it. Hell, we are the 2nd best conference west of the rockies (i think).. that being said, Sagarin is all over the place.. I really don't find him reliable anymore... I can't recall when I switched my opinion on him but I do believe it has been several years. I like on-field events when possible.
Case in point: the Mountain West is ranked below the Pac10 according to the saggin Sagarin.. The Mountain West whooped the pac10 on the field repeatedly this year. Also, I believe 2 of the last 4 'bowl challenge cups' have been won by the Mountain West.
Let's see Sagrin's ranking that he prefers has Texas Tech 4th ahead of USC 5th and Alabama 6th. The Elo-Chess which the NCAA uses has Texas Tech 2nd and USC 10th. I'm not a fan of the Computers and have not been for a long time. My hope is that the Gators win out, sorry kp, and hold on in the AP so that if we don't make it to the BCS Championship game we might win the AP and have a split like USC did a few years back.
Hey Corey, USC already has their split title! Let me ask you this, if Florida, Oklahoma and Texas win out with Texas winning the Big 12 who goes to the BCS Championship game? Not who should go, but based on the polls and computers as they are now and what you think they will be who goes to the BCS game?
Read this, and it's not a sure thing for Texas to be ranked ahead of Oklahoma in the Big 12. More BCS Maddness
Bill....hard to follow the info in that link. I don't see Florida in that HI poll and they are currently #2. I think the source here has Big 12 glasses on. UF will be #1 with two more wins.....no question.
It is what it is, all Texas can do is play well on Thanksgiving Day. If we make it to the B12 championship game, it's a big plus. We are as deserving as OU of that spot. But there is no way to sort it out other than the voting and the computers. I thought if I rooted for Ok State that would be the key, but if OU loses, we still lose since that would leave 2 one loss teams and Tech would have the head to head on us and go to the B12 championship game. I guess that we could still make it if Missouri wins the B12 championship, and by not playing we sneak into the game. Which of course will set off some hard feelings if Oregon beats Oregon State and USC ends up the Pac10 champion and Texas not the B12 champion yet still in the game. Another year and another set of controversies. Terry
In college football there's ALWAYS room to question... Dude... it's all speculation based on a conservative view of the formulas... which he stated OVER AND OVER is a conservative view. Take off your SEC GLASSES for a little while, and see it for what it is: One persons take on what COULD happen. Gads, you are so narrow-minded it's almost funny. Almost...
MCG, I think you just don't get it. Florida can be number one in the poll and still not go to the BCS Championship game, just ask USC the year Oklahoma and LSU played. It is a definite possibility whether you agree or not that we could win out and Oklahoma and Texas play in the Championship game. A number of years ago I wrote here that the University of Miami could finish behind FSU whom Miami had beaten to play an unbeaten Oklahoma. Gonzo said I was crazy, yada yada yada. But it was true. That one was more cut and dried than this situation, but if you think it's out of the question you haven't studied the situation.
I know the voters will do everything necessary to vote out a Texas- OU title game if Florida wins it's next two.....meaning that UF will be #1 in both human polls at that point. I do feel UF's SOS will take care of the computers but even at a strong #3 in the computers the #1 human ranking would be enough to push UF into at least #2 in the BCS. Not just my analysis but pretty much the analysis of every serious sports media outlet out there. But then again strangely enough this board is one place where most people always have that paranoid..."the media is conspiring against us"... mentality. SI's bowl take....for good measure: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/stewart_mandel/11/24/bowl-projections-week-13/index.html?eref=T1
I can see it now, if OU wins out and is #1, or Texas wins out and is #1 and UF is #2 everybody in SE Michigan is going to disrespect UF again just like they did back in 2006. It's deja' vu all over again. ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGh.
It's funny but just the other day I overheard a Michigan fan at the bar say to his friend..."who was it that lost?...one of the Florida teams?"...."man I hate those Florida teams".... I think FSU and Miami have always fit into that category here in Michigan but after 2006 Florida has jumped in there as well.
