You prefer to view what I say BT in the way you stated and I don't think that will ever change until Ohio State lays some serious wood on a top SEC team...which could happen this year by the way.

Anytime I tout the SEC or Florida I am being rude or crowing if you will.

I read an article that touts the SEC and post it here and I am suddenly unable to win with grace.

Listen....I have seen ND fans here go on and on about the Irish since the Prodigy days and sometimes it was warranted and sometimes not.

If they want to show enthusiam about their team then I can understand that.

I think at this point even if I keep OSU out of discussions specifically that you will read into it what you want anyway.

As I said....this topic of the SEC's 7-1 BCS bowl record stands on it's own merit. The Big Ten is 1-5 then ( without mention of that unmentionable school from Ohio )

Well, let me first reason a bit with you. I certainly agree that the Big 10 is a talented football conference. That really goes without being said. The reason I contend that bowl games are not a great measure of a conference's superiority is that when you have a month to prepare there are many variables that come into play. Players lose interest, team play isn't as sharp, momentum lacks, and in Tennessee's case last year coaches get outcoached and outprepared. Now, I'm not sure how to measure conference strength otherwise. One bit of information that does attest to my theory that the SEC is more talented is the number of NFL players from the SEC. As of opening game 2006 the SEC had 266 players in the NFL compared to 236 for the Big 10. Also, in the latest NFL draft the SEC outdid the Big 10 41-32. Similar to the head to head meetings of SEC and Big 10 teams over the last several years these numbers are not disparate enough to make an accurate judgement as to which conference is better. I have to say though that the facts Motorcity Gator brought up are the most convincing argument for either side of this debate. Also, collegefootballnews.com predicts that ten SEC teams will go to bowl games this year, that's 10!!!!! That number includes the entire SEC East. I think this prediction is a bit unreasonable but the fact that a website as reputable as CFN would even predict such a thing attests to the incredible depth in the SEC. EVERY team EVERY week can bite you.

MCG, you just don't get it or get it and choose to act rudely anyway. I'm not sure which is worse.

You can tout the SEC all you want - nothing wrong with conference pride. You can tout the Gators all you want - nothing wrong with school pride. You can post an article about the SEC and that has absolutely nothing to do with lack of grace, but we can both agree that being a braggart isn't the most appealing of personality characteristics

What you cannot do, is to win and incessantly find ways to belittle, demean and generally pi$$ on your opponents. That is unsportsmanlike, discourteous, rude and downright punk and that is what you have been doing.

The ND guys love their Irish. As well they should as there is no more storied tradition in all of sport. I see the Irish guys beating Purdue, and the Stripeheads, and Penn State all of whom are represented here and I don't see them pi$$ing all over themselves reminding Stu, BobDa and AJ of that fact and seeking to then uncover nuggets of their further unworthiness.

I see BobDa's Blue owning my Buckeyes for the better part of a haplessly futile decade and destroying countless national title shots for my Buckeyes in the process in games - given the nature of our rivalry - are vastly more painful to me than any bowl game. I don't see BobDa pi$$ing all over himself reminding Don and I of that fact and then putting forth additional evidence of our shortcomings.

I see AJ's Nits hanging 63 points on us and winning by greater than half-a-hundred but I don't see AJ pi$$ing all over himself reminding us of that fact and then continuing to belittle, etc, etc.

I see TOK's Longhorns come in to Columbus for an epic showdown at night before a frenzied crowd in a game with immense natioal title implications. In a great, great game, his Longhorns come from behind with a brilliant late 4th quarter drive that sucked the life out of everybody in that Stadium - me included - but I didn't see TOK.....well you get the picture. What I did receive from TOK was a phone call immediately following the game that was the essence of grace and sportsmanship.

I hope that is helpful....I guess we shall see.

Don Krebsie, there may come a time in the future when I may ask a favor of you......

    AQ,

I hear what you're saying and agree that you have raised valid points and they are well taken. The SEC does have more schools that would account for some measure of the difference but I do acknowledge that the SEC has slightly more players on NFL rosters at this time. That said, you still have to play the games......and when they play the games, the SEC tends to fare much better against the other conferences and not so well against the Big 10. That will always be the most important of considerations, imho......I do however understand why SEC fans may have a different view, we just don't happen to agree with them!

    BT,

There is just no nice way to bring up the 0-8 bowl record that OSU has vs. the SEC.

Take affront...be pissed....etc. but it is relevant when you are the one dismissing the SEC's magnificent BCS Bowl record of 7-1 vs. the nation by saying yeah...but they are only 12-10 vs. the Big Ten since 2001.

OSU as I respectfully said is the standard bearer for the Big Ten in that period of time and they have 3 of the 4 Big Ten wins in the BCS Bowls since 2001. The Bucks have been very impressive themselves in BCS Bowls.

I NEVER started out saying anything in particular about the Big Ten or especially Ohio State but since you started right in with your hypersensitive refute of what I posted by throwing the Big Ten up at me I think OSU's SEC bowl record is appropriate to mention.

Again though....there is no nice way to say it and any way I say it you will take offense to the fact they have come up way short vs. the SEC in bowls.

But it is very relevant in debating your counterpoint that the SEC is on par or maybe behind the Big Ten in some kind of convoluted way.

How about you refrain from posting in my topics or replying to my comments and I will certainly refrain from posting to you.

Ok, I tried to say some things gently, and do let me say again I have a whole lot of pride in my Gators and the SEC. I think the SEC year in and year out is the toughest conference to make it through unbeaten, not because we may have the best team in the country on any given year but because we have several very good teams each year and then several pretty good ones. Because of our depth.

Now that's my opinion, and I would wager that Buckeye Terry or any of the other Notre Dame and Big Ten fans have a problem with me having that opinion.

    Buckeye Terry said
Sorry MCG but I have to agree with Terry here. I really don't how you can expect to post an article like this, then hammer Terry with the OSU record in bowl games against the SEC like you have done and then expect that you will not get a response.

    MCG said
Now that doesn't make a lot of sense does it? An article negative to the Big 10, comments negative to the Buckeyes and you think you can just post them and no one will respond.

    Get real.

This topic is in serious danger of being locked. We'll see how it goes, but MCG I would seriously read Terrry's comments and think about them if I were you.

But then I'm not, I'm just a moderator with the power to lock or delete.

    Have a great day all.

"An article negative to the Big 10"

OK Bill....go ahead and point out where the article was designed to be negative toward the Big Ten, Ohio State, etc.

Before BT chimed in about my being soooo incorrect I had nothing to say about The Big Ten or OSU.

Go ahead and lock it if you can honestly refute what I say....AFTER reading my first post and understanding it without your typical knee jerk reaction.

MCG, I ain't playing your game and have had my say above.

If you can't understand how with your track record that posting and article like that, then coming right back in your next post with the comment about Ohio State's record against the SEC comes across to others then I'm tired of explaining it, you have all the answer you are getting from me.

And I have to tell you that the people here are very reasonable folks who all love their team, you would be better off if you kept that in mind.

    Have a nice evening.

    Here it is again:

"Talking about the SEC of course and check out what CFN has to say about that and especially those BCS bowl records of other conferences:

Really, how good is the SEC?

No one can deny it’s the best conference going at the moment. No one can deny that the overall speed and talent level is tremendous. The weekly drama is unparalleled, thanks to so many good match-ups, and the overall competition is so tough that it’s just about impossible to get through unscathed. So after the way Florida blew up Ohio State to win the national title, will the conference start to get every benefit of the doubt? It should.

Of all the national champions since Florida State won in 1993 (remember that only the BCS champions count in our new world…sorry USC of 2003), only three finished with a loss. Take a wild stab at which league produced those three; yes, the SEC (1995 Florida, 2003 LSU, and 2006 Florida). You can understand why Auburn fans are still angry after their unbeaten team got left out in the cold in 2004. The SEC has proven time and again that when given the chance, it shines through on the highest stage.

But really, how good is the SEC?

To feed the ego a little more, the league has gone 7-1 in the BCS since 2001, with two national titles, and the lone blemish was Georgia’s 38-35 upset loss to West Virginia in the 2006 Sugar Bowl. In that same time span, the Big Ten went 4-6 (with Ohio State winning three of those), the Big 12 went 3-6, and the ACC was 0-6.

Remember, it took USC losing to UCLA and a sizable portion of the voters to go against Michigan just to get Florida in the championship game. Maybe it’s time to start weighing the strength of schedule more when it comes to the SEC, and to realize that a one-loss team here could be the equivalent of an unbeaten team from another conference. That might especially be the case this season.

Things have gotten even tougher, with normal bottom-feeders Kentucky and Vanderbilt now good enough to go to a bowl. Ole Miss and Mississippi State are even better than in 2006, when they were more than just competitive by the end the season. And then, of course, there are all the big-name programs.

Georgia is getting better with QB Matthew Stafford improving, South Carolina will be better than it’s been in several years, Arkansas has the best running back tandem in the nation, Auburn will be typical Auburn with a fast, nasty defense, Tennessee will be strong again (as long as the receiving corps comes through), and LSU and Florida will open the season ranked among the top five teams in the nation.

How good is the SEC? It’s still the best, and it’s only getting better."

So Bill....you are mandating I can post NOTHING positive about the SEC and especially Florida because it MIGHT upset someone?

IN this article it says Ohio State won 3 of the 4 BCS games the Big Ten has won since 2001.

Man....what a slam against Ohio State.....I should apologize for that one!

Giving it a rest Bill but it would be nice if you acknowledged that I wasn't picking a fight with the Big Ten by posting this article.

"I won't acknowledge any such thing MCG."

No more comments from me because it's obviously useless and that is a puzzling statement above Bill if you did indeed read my first post which is almost entirely a paste from CFN.

I think it's time to lock this topic MCG, if you have any problems with me that you want to take to e-mail then do so.

But let me warn you ahead of time that I've pretty much said what I have to say here and don't intend to rehash anything.

    Topic is finished.
