How can BC beat NC and a week later lose to Harvard?

How can ND lose to St. Johns and then beat Georgetown. Basketball has much more parity than football, that's the answer.

Hey as a St. John's grad, I resent that.
8-6 Harvard had never beaten a ranked team before. 10-4 St. John's isn't THAT bad Doc.
Was it a road game for BC? Did they get tired walking to Cambridge?

Well ND was heavily favored vs St. Johns, but it was a road game...so that's a little easier to explain than losiing to Harvard for sure. No doubt BC was over confident and wasn't ready to play and Harvard was playing lights out if things like this follow form, Harvard will lose to some .500 Ivy league team.

That ended our home win streak at 37.

This Tennessee team is loaded with talent. Their only real weakness talent-wise is the lack of a true 3 point threat. However, they're long and athletic. Wayne Chism has stepped up in the past few weeks including a 15 pt. 19 rebound effort last night.

However, it seems that this particular Vols team has yet to really "get" the team concept and they certainly haven't jelled. I think they're a quality team that could be dangerous come tourney time but right now they're prone to stretches of lackadaisical play that has been biting them against quality opponents. The SEC season begins Saturday so they need to get it together fast. Ultimately, the lack of a 3 point shooter ala Lofton and Jajuan Smith will hurt them I'm afraid.

The Irish are a really good team, not a top 10 team inspite of the rankings, but still a good team that should make the NCAA's. The real flaw in the Irish is the lack of those long and lean leapers that are so important in college basketball. Syracuse always seem to have them, UConn has them, in college those skinny tall leapers can really have an impact, frequently in the NBA they don't have the bulk and can't make it like they did in college.

College team with some good 3pt shooters and some good long lean leapers inside can really go a long way. Not many college teams anymore have true centers types.

Tennessee opens SEC play with a win on the road against Georgia. This was not a one sided game. Tennessee led by 10 in the first half and Georgia led by 10 at one point in the second half. Tennessee reverses the Georgia run to win by 9.

If I am not mistaken, this win is nine in a row against Georgia.

    Vols rally against Georgia

This article that I just added confirms my belief that we have now won nine straight against the Dawgs.

That's a nice win for you guys Tom. I don't understand how UGa isn't better in hoops..Still, you dispatched a real good, athletic team and moved one game closer to the goal. I can't see you getting much a challenge in the SEC this year. Bama blows, Auburn sucks even worse (and these are the words of their fans guys so don't think it is an SEC thing)... Ole Miss, Miss State and LSU all have their own headaches.

In the East in looks like SCAR, who hasn't played a real tough schedule to date, and maaaaaybe UF.... I just don't see anything to get in your way.

Plus you guys schedule well which means so much come tourney time.

I'll bet that UGA being in ACC country hurts them for basketball recruiting while helps them with football recruiting.

    Terry,

Good point. Still, they should be able to recruit Atlanta with GTech... the Ga plains and the mid-level cities in AL, TN and GA to stay top flight.. There's some good talent in that area.. Not to mention the Carolinas are right there.. I just can't see how they don't get 10 good players...

Vandy fought back hard down by 20 in the second half to draw within 6 before Kentucky pulled out the 10 point victory. Tennessee and Kentucky are now 1 - 0 in the SEC. Can Florida, Arkansas, and South Carolina win as well?

Hey Alabama basketball does not suck, however their ability to underachieve does create a rather large vacuum that leads to a rapid evacuation of all breathable atmosphere.

    Corey,
Ha! Not really. I just look to the ACC for good basketball, but unlike AJ, I like Duke. When I lived in Maryland, I told those folks that they really didn't understand football in the ACC (much of this was pre-FSU) and we (the SEC except for Kentucky) didn't really understand basketball.

    KP-

LOL I work in a Tide office. I'm the lone holdout. 2 of them are die-hard Tide football and basketball fans. I have, since starting with the company 9.5 months ago, sat thru countless lectures as to why Gottfried is an under-achieving anti-christ who is killing Tide basketball :) I am quite sure you have heard these types of lectures before.

The Cal win over U-Dub in triple overtime today was one of the best games I've seen in some time. It's still early, but I'm thinking Mike Montgomery and Cal might just be a monster in the making.
