I have him in one of my fantasy leagues. His point total that night was far more than I ever thought possible for a position player.

Kudos to the Miami manager...would have been so easy late in the game to just walk him...but hell...get him out if you can but let him try to make history.

We are the Champions, again! 7 out of the last 8 years, AL WEST Champions!

What a come back for the Astros from 10 games down with the awful start to the season.

    From the Athletic...

    The Padres have the juice

We have just five days left in the MLB regular season, which means our attention has fully shifted to the postseason. How will Shohei Ohtani look in his first playoff action? How will the Yankees' outcome affect Juan Soto’s free agency? Etc., etc.

Yet we still have affairs to sort before Tuesday. Two real playoff races are left — plus another, juicier subplot:

    • In the AL, our division winners are essentially (if not entirely technically) sewn up: Yankees, Guardians and Astros. The Orioles have clinched as well, likely a wild card spot. The race is for the final two spots, with four teams — Tigers, Royals, Twins and Mariners — within 2 1/2 games of each other with about five games to play each.

    • The NL is similar — mostly. The Phillies and Brewers have clinched division titles, and the Dodgers and Padres are in (more on that in a sec). The wild card has three teams (Mets, Diamondbacks and Braves) competing for two spots. Atlanta is just a half-game back. These last few games should be fun.
As currently constituted, here’s what our wild-card matchups would look like:

    • Royals vs. Astros
    • Tigers vs. Orioles
    • Diamondbacks vs. Brewers
    • Mets vs. Padres

And what a year for Ohtani, very nearly pulled off the Triple Crown.

RIP Pete Rose. One of the greatest baseball players of all-time. I've always felt that his lifetime ban from baseball was too much, and that he should have eventually been elected to the HOF

I disagree re: Pete Rose. He violated a sacred rule of baseball and never showed even a hint of remorse. He’s a true legend for what he did on the field, but off the field he was a tragic figure who was his own worst enemy.

Verlander was left off the roster for the wild card series with Detroit. He pitched Saturday so I don't think he be available anyway. If we get to the ALDS will he be on the roster.?

Turn out the lights, Astros are done. Tigers are a good young team and I hope they go all the way.

Astros have to decide if they want Bregman and Verlander back next year.

I have seen that Bregman wants 8 years 35M/year. That's too long of a contract for a 30 year old 3rd baseman who is good but not great anymore.

Verlander, he would have to be willing to play for some sort of min but loaded with incentives type of contract.

My opinion only. If Verlander doesn't retire, he'll tag his legacy, which is exceptional, with the line, he stayed too long at the dance. Even for the very best, and he's one of the very best, when it's gone, it's gone forever, says Father Time.

FWIW Bobda, I was hoping the Brewers would beat the Mets. Why? I remember well going to a game when I, my son, and my twin grandsons were in Milwaukee (my first time there) and I loved the crowd’s enthusiasm. Also, I always have liked Pat Murphy going back to his ND days. Plus, I’ve never liked the Mets. Maybe next year.

Murphy did a great job this season. But, the Brewers have some God awful monkey’s paw curse on them in post season play. I think most Brewers fans came into this WC series with a sense of fatalism but wow the Brewers had this series in the palm of their hands and tossed it away as painfully as possible. Kind of makes me understand why Wisconsin is the drunkest state in the country.

The Reds have hired TerryFrancona as manager. He comes out of retirement. It'll be interesting to see if he can re-ignite the fire that once burned for roughly 23 years when he managed the Phillies (4), Red Sox (8), and Indians (11). I looked it up. The Reds have a nice corps of young players with great potential.

Dodger fans got really ugly last night, causing the game to be delayed before the Padress blew it wide open.

I didn't see it, but the reports were pretty bad, I wonder if fans were arrested or at least kicked out of the park?
