Verlander has passed Greg Maddux on the all-time strikeout list. He's only about 2400 behind Nolan Ryan! :D

Nolan was just so amazing, he was a power pitcher for 27 years. JV has to me at least lost some of the mustard on the fast ball.

Angel Hernandez has retired as a MLB ump. The last time I saw him was in a Astros/Rangers game where he literally called strikes on a Ranger batter that had to be 6 or more inches off the plate. With the Union and all it's pretty much impossible for MLB to weed out bad umps.

I’m guessing he’ll spend much of his retirement outside.

Yamamoto had a great outing in NYC last night, he's starting to show that he's worth all the money the Dodgers are paying him.

Speaking of NYC, I wonder where our Yankee fan has disappeared to these days. I see he's posting on facebook as usual, but he and our Cornhusker have disappeared from the Skybox. I miss them.

Astors salary cap takes it in the shorts as they finally give up on Abreu, and release him.

HOUSTON -- The Astros released Jose Abreu on Friday, cutting ties with the former American League MVP less than halfway through a three-year, $58.5 million contract.

The 37-year-old Abreu was batting .124 (14-for-113) with two homers and seven RBIs this season, during which he spent time in the minors trying to fix his swing. The Astros still owe him $30.8 million from the deal he signed before last season.

Not in my book, being away from your family for two years sucks! Not sure why the family stayed in Texas, but assume the kids and schools?

Long time MLB LHP. I looked up his stats. 25 years (1986-2010) with 7 different teams, 92% as SP. Career record 269-209. Known for control and durability, NOT velocity. Hence, the humorous commercial.

Trivia fact for ND folks: He's Digger Phelps' son-in-law.

The Say Hey Kid lived to the age of 93. By far, one of the greatest ever. Rest in Peace.

I was going to post some thing about your Guardians. Especially after the Astros swept the Orioles.

Where does your payroll rank?

Cleveland definitely getting their moneys worth out of the team!

Orioles also, Astros sweep not with standing, getting a lot for their money. A lot of good young talent in Baltimore.

4th of July and the Astros are over. 500. May 31st wouldn't have predicted it, esp given the shape of all the pitchers were counting on having various injury and inconsistency problems. Not to mention our 95M closer was a bust so far.

Now Seattle is within an arms length of taking 1st in the ALW.
