It was 100+ on the field that day. Hicks cramped up running to first and had to be helped off the field.
Astros make 2 big moves to put some more pop in the lineup. 1st base with Yuri Gurriel who was really struggling at bat this season after winning the AL batting title last year, now has Trey Mancini who has been more consistent at bat. They also acquired a catcher who can hit from the Red Sox, Christian Vazquez from the Red Sox who will only have to walk down the hall to join his new team since the Red Sox are in Houston tonight. Both Gurriel and Maldanado are team leaders so I do wonder how the new guys will be worked in, I have a hard time seeing either being cast aside.
I find it interesting that the Yankee's picked up 2 pitchers from the A's a team that inexplicably have had the Astros number inspite of being the worst team in the AL.
The Yankees traded Joey Gallo to the Dodgers for pitching prospect Clayton Beeter. And that mercifully ends that chapter.
I would love to know what JO'CO thinks about the Gallo acquisition. Padres really beefed up the offense with Soto and Bell. Gave up a lot as well though. Both of these guys are potentially rent a players though. Win Now.
I think I know what JO'Co would think of trading for a lifetime .201 hitter who is currently hitting .159. The Yankees traded SP Jordan Montgomery to the Cardinals for OF Harrison Bader.
Although a lifetime .201 hitter is unlikely to catch fire at any point in his career, watch him get hot with the Dodgers. My question is, why did the Yankees acquire him in the first place? I know he's a reasonably prolific HR hitter but he averages less that a hit every game FOR HIS ENTIRE CAREER. It's not like 2022 is a down year for him at .195.
Bader gotta get a haircut now! I'm gonna miss Bader...electric speed and awesome glove in the outfield. Wont miss his bat. He's born and raised in the bronx...he's home so maybe that makes a difference.
They acquired him for the same reason the Dodgers did, I assume. They were hoping he would get hot in a new environment. They surrounded him with good hitters but nothing helped. He swings from the heels and tried to pull everything. Down and away or high in the zone and he will not touch you. On the flip side, he runs well for a big man and is a good defensive outfielder. Fun Fact: Aaron Judge had 42 HRs the day Gallo was traded. Gallo had 36 HITS !
Michael Brantley was a great pickup from the Indians, and has been a really good player for the Astros. Well liked by all the fans and a popular guy in the clubhouse. It seems like we won't see him again this year and maybe not ever again in an Astros uniform. He hasn't been replaced in the lineup, we have missed his bat.
Terry, I look forward to beating your Astros tomorrow night. They are going to be way tired from circling the bases tonight.
Verlander with a rare good outing in Cleveland.. did you know that? I didn't. In addition to leading the majors in wins, Verlander is first with a 1.73 ERA. The right-hander is 11-16 in his career at Progressive Field, where his 5.17 ERA is the highest of any ballpark that he has pitched in more than twice.
Yeah, I knew that. We've been pretty hard on Verlander. But that was the Indians...this is the Guardians. Seriously, though...he should be ashamed beating up on these poor kids ...We've had 12 players debut their first major league game this year...and most of them are still up there. They are fun to watch. We gave McClanahan the worst start of his career last week. Granted we are in an easier division but the youngsters are only one game out.
