Yankees came in with their four best relievers either hurt or absent. Last night you saw the result. And of course their annual inability to play small ball.

When I went to bed last night, the Dodgers were up on the Padres...now I see the Padres rallied and eliminated the Dodgers. 111 wins on the season and they don't get past the Division series. Braves and Mets 101 wins, are home watching the winners. Yankee's 99 wins are on life support.

    Crazy post season!

Yankees v Astros. 2 best records in the AL. Justin Verlander will go for the Astros. I hope that horrible outing he had in his last start is in the rear view mirror.

He has a bad habit of giving up a HR in the first innings of his playoff starts. Then he settled in and is the JV who can dominate. Yankees are a power hitting club. We got the best of them in the regular season though so hopefully we can continue that trend.

Jose Altuve was 0 for the Seattle series, we neeed him to be the hitter we know that he is

Zach Grinke and family at the Seattle/Houston game. Didn't know he was a big Mariners fan though.

No secrets between the Astros and the Yankees. I think Boone is going with Jamieson Taillon in Game One which is interesting. Should be a good series.

Well Verlander was slow out of the box then he settled down and dominated the Yankees with 11 strike outs in 6 innings. It was a homer contest Yankee's had 2 solo shots, Astros had 3 and our staff struck out 18 Yankee's.

Lot of ball to be played though, but it's good to get that game 1 win at home.

Who's idea was it to allow the Yankees to party like rock stars till 3 AM after the Cleveland series when they knew they had a game with the Astros in less than 24 hours ?

The Astros had two strikeouts as a team. The Yankees had 17.

I didn't know that Verlander had such a history with the Yankee's.

Verlander improved to 5-1 in nine career postseason starts against the Yankees with a 2.63 ERA. Entering this postseason, his Detroit and Houston teams had played the Yankees in five postseason series and he was on the winning side each time. In 2017, he was the ALCS Most Valuable Player after beating the Yankees twice in the Astros' seven-game triumph, including a complete-game win in Game 2 that remains the last time any starting pitcher went the distance in a postseason game.

Verlander certainly seems to be the iron man of this generation of MLB pitchers. As a semi-old school guy, I'm disappointed that we don't see complete games anymore, or very rarely, in the regular or postseason.

Astros win, 3-2, would have been a shutout if Frambler doesn't make 2 errors on the same play.

On to the Bronx, will be tough with Cole going in game 3.

Same old script for the Yankees. All year long they bludgeon teams with the long ball. Then in the playoffs the power just stops. This year it is incredible with 30 Ks in two games. Think about that; you have 54 opportunities at your disposal in two games to create runs and you fail to make contact with the ball in 30 of them. Or you have 18 innings available and you mail in 10 of them. It's hard to win anything with that level of incompetence. Boone is trying to ignite the magic by playing Matt Carpenter after 3 months on the DL. He was red hot before he went down but is 0-8 in the playoffs with 8 Ks. Its hard to see this series going further than 5 games unless the Yanks figure out a way to make contact.

Hard to imagine that the Astros will win more than 1 of 3 in the Bronx. I see it coming back to Houston.

Color me surprised that we got to Gerrit Cole for 5 runs. Astro pitchers have shutout the Yankee's through the 8th. If we can handle them in the bottom of the 9th and go up 3-0 I like our chances to not have to go back to Houston. Krebs said the series wouldn't go past 5 games, I didn't think he was right, but maybe he's right. But still have to hold on here tonight

Astros take care of business...Shutout the Yankee's, a 3-0 lead which has rarely been overcome. Only time was 2004 when the Red Sox did it.

Astros big bats were silent, but the bottom of the lineup did it's job.

The Yankees only struck out 11 times today ! I fully expect the Astros to take it in 4 now. Boone will be released shortly thereafter.

Real battle going on in the Bronx tonight, Yankee's aren't going down without a fight.

4-4 right now in the top of the 5th. Yankee's have gotten to Lance McCullers Jr tonight, I thought between him and Cristian Javier that I liked Lances chances much better. So what do I know, Javier gives up nuttin and 1 hit, Lance has been hit hard.
