Marlins have been in the playoffs only two previous times and won the World Series both times.

    Good omen???

Looks like it is time to say bye bye to the NL Central. This is like watching the B10 in bowl games.

The Marlins now have played in 7 post season series and have won all 7. Definitely a team you don't want to play in post season. They earned the series win, but the Cubs' performance in the second half of this weird season shows that they have some serious problems that hopefully will be dealt with during the off season.

So sorry to learn of Bob Gibson's passing. I loved watching him pitch. He had a permanent chip on his shoulder. He was among the last of the iron men, tough pitchers who routinely threw complete games. I looked up his career stats. He had 255 CG in his career. In 1968, he had a season ERA of 1.12. His career ERA was 2.91. He was overpowering. He clearly was among the best pitchers of my lifetime. AJ, this is one thing on which we both can agree.

Kaline, Brock, and now Gibson. Three legendary players of the 68 Series who passed away this year.

In my opinion, they don't throw enough. We now have a whole generation of pitchers who have been on tight pitch counts while throwing garbage like splitters from a young age. Just my 2 cents, anyway.

Oct 3rd 1951, the shot heard around the world! I was too young to remember it, didn't become a Dodger fan till 1955.

I seem to remember reading something about that, did they have a spy in CF?

Yes. They admitted what they did half a century later. They had a guy with binoculars in the CF scoreboard who was connected to the dugout via telephone. The so-called "Miracle of Coogan's Bluff" was a total fabrication.

Astros take game 1 from A's. Carlos Correa who was recently called a clown by C.C. Sabathia, was the hero today, 2 HR's and 4 RBI's. 16 hits for the Astros today.

Greinke is doubtful for the playoffs now, arm soreness. The Big 3 from last years playoffs, Cole, Verlander and now Greinke are all gone. Astros going to have to outscore the other team to win, and hope the no-name pitchers and bullpen can hold things down a bit.

Padres are in trouble. Now they must beat Kershaw twice...
Since I don't follow the American League, I must say that I had NO IDEA that Mookie Betts was that good. He amazes me every day...
