I guess the question is wheter or not you would allow your sons to join the Army/Navy/Marines/Air Force under any circumstances. Because even if they join during a period where there are not conflagrations going on anywhere, one could break out that you might not approve of but by then they'd would already be in the service.

If we had not gone to Iraq and just gone to Afghanistan, and your son(s) said they wanted to go in and fight there would you approve that?

    TOK,

Can you imagine American families in the 40's saying it's OK to send my kids to the Pacific because we were attacked by the Japanese, but I sure as hell am not going to send them to Europe and sending them to North Africa is criminal.....in truth, FDR took heat for the Allied "Germany first" policy with many suggesting that the Jewish influence on his cabinet had unduly biased his decision-making, but Americans responded to their President's call and went to enlistment centers in over-whelming numbers to do their duty for their country. I don't recall any resolution being debated in Congress to cut off funding for the invasion of North Africa.....I think at that time it would have been considered treasonous.....and to think the lefties in Congress are reveling in their cleverness.

What has happened to us....may God help us.

Hey MCG... view this and tell me that we are not already in WWIII. Tell me that we should leave these fine people to carry on their daily lives.

As for me and my wife, we have bought land far from the center of any metropolitan area. We have begun building a stock pile of weaponry and ammunition to fight off those bastards once they reach my property borders. They will be coming. They will be here sooner than later due to the unwillingness for the average American to see what is in our near future. Americans that sit back and make statements like “I would not back my son’s decisions to go fight…” are not the main problem, but they are definitely nowhere near the solution. Thank goodness for young guys like GORT who either have fathers that support their decision, or who pay no attention to the blindness of unsupportive fathers.

MCG, I want to see the shocked look on your face when you gaze upon the terror of these radicals in the above video paying you a visit. Are you prepared? They will be here. They will be here due to people like yourself that will not support the fight against them away from our own soil.

Don't let your sons enlist, MCG. Even though it's their decision you better stop them if they feel about the war as you do.

On the morning of 9.11 my kid was sitting in his sophomore class at Rutgers. By 1:30 PM his USAF reserve unit was activated. He was officially no longer a college student in slightly less than five hours time. He would remain on active duty for 26. 5 months. Here he is in Kuwait about five months after the WTC fell.....Look like fun? The recruiters said he would see exotic places

    Sid,

He had a good, traditional Catholic upbringing. I told him early on that when he got too big for me to handle with my bare hands I would use a ball bat

I can still subdue him with the Vulcan Death Grip popularized by Spock in Star Trek. But I have to sneak up on him, preferably while he's asleep. :(

Here's a dose of reality. My son, pictured above in the thread, found out Saturday that his ticket is punched for Iraq. He is part of Bush's 20,000 troop buildup.

After 6.5 years in the USAF Reserves including five overseas missions he decided to move over to the NJ Air National Guard. It took them three months to snatch him up.

Here's the scary thing which points out how depleted our armed forces are. This is the first reserve or guard unit in history to be given sole responsibility for base security in a foreign land, much less a war zone.

Scott's unit is 68 strong. He is one of only two men with previous overseas experience and the only one with experience in the current theater of operations. He has two fire teams under him consisting of eight men. Besides one fellow state trooper, the rest are kids fresh out of boot camp. Four of them have never even been out of New Jersey!

They are being shipped to an army base in Kansas on May 15 for specific training. Scheduled to report to Ali Air Base near Al Nasiryah in southern Iraq in early July. Tour scheduled to last six months but you know how that goes. He just got enagaged at Christmas... you can imagine how happy his fiancee is. Not to mention his parents.

If this troop expansion is predicated on yanking a bunch of kids out of college with less than a year experience and NO specific training then how can we even be remotely be considering expanding this war into Iran?

When I have discussed the price of this war in the past I have alluded to the usurpment of our available military resources as one cost people don't think about.

Sure it's easy to add up the billions upon billions of dollars it has cost and the tragic loss of life and limb but we are also in a very weakened bargaining position with enemies such as Iran.

Conscription would not be far off if we were to become embroiled in another major conflict.

Again I say....sure it's wonderful....awesome...that Saddam is dead and out of power but at what cost to both the U.S and the Iraqis themselves?

Geopolitically it has been a disaster of mammoth proportions and it was all predicated on inaccurate if not manipulated intel.

This fish stinks at the head.....

In any event George I am sorry to hear your son must rejoin this war and I hope God is with him always and brings him home safe to his family.

Ditto what TOK says Krebsie.....safe and triumphant. God bless him!

It IS a war we must win, I'm still waiting for any of the loyal opposition to talk about winning....redeploying, disengaging, withdrawal, etc. but not winning. Why the hell is that? Surely, we need leadership in this country that is more concerned with winning than not.....

    George,

I am not sure if prayers from attorneys are accepted in the celestial mail system. But, my Mom is a saint and a devoted Catholic, and I am positive her messages are received. I will make sure to ask that she rush out a prayer ASAP asking that your son be kept safe and gets back home soon.
