Doc, if yer gonna play, get in the game... That chain yanking thing was directed at our friend Dave.
I appreciate what you are saying Stu about Meyer making a difference at BG. I just didn't get that same kind of feeling with the way that BT put things.
Aw, that's all he meant too. Many great coaches have come out of MAC schools...UM can be added to the list.
What I take away from this enlightened debate is that Meyer should be leaving UF any time now...
I met his agent in Kentucky last year who also happened to be on the board of trustees at BG and he said that Meyer was the permanent Fla coach for as long as they would have him. It was his "last stop" as this guy put it. That was an unsolicited comment too.
Don't believe it.....Meyer is an Ohio boy and an alum, there is only one dream job for him. If the Buckeye job opened up, he'd be on the first plane to Columbus.
Don't believe it.....Meyer is an Oh...he'd be on the first plane to Columbus. Wink Now Terry, just because someone was born and raised in Ohio doesn't mean they wouldn't move to Florida if they get the chance, and Urban Meyer got the chance.  A chuch that I used to attend a several moves back, ust to have an all states Sunday where they took a count of the state everyone was from. Ohio was a consistent winner and always in the top 3. That of course includes me! And no way I move back!  Then Floridians move to North Carolina, and that also incluces me! That's because I want to live in the mountains for awhile, most likely the rest of my live. Anyway, you have Tressel and we have Meyer, we both have a lot of resons to be happy.
I hear that if the Bucks win the NC, that Tressel will be the next coach of the Cleveland Browns and Troy will be the Browns #1 draft pick. Seriously.
TOK, that rumor has been circulating the Buckeye Nation for some time now....the conventional wisdom, fwiw, suggests that relative to his priorities, all things considered, Coach believes he is in a better place now......I hope the CW is correct.....! Bill......I'm only yanking your chain! Why would anybody want to go home?????
I don't know, the time would be right. He's a god in Ohio, along with Troy Smith. The Browns would give him one of those 5 year 25 million dollar contracts. He would be set for life. If it doesn't work out he can always come back to college football like Steve Spurrier.
No question....why would he want to screw that up? The upside is $ and the possibility of being a god in Cleveland for a couple of years? What NFL coach is more popular or more of a celebrity on his turf than Tressel, Stoops, Carrol, Weiss, etc? Our sandbox is bigger than theirs.....if the guy wants to be set for life, he doesn't need to go anywhere else. imho, Spurrier's ego got the better of him and he walked away from his dream job.....it's almost impossible to go back. I don't think Tressel is burdened with an ego the size of Spurrier's.....all things considered, if one is successful, I don't believe there is a coaching job anywhere in football better than the one he's got. In college if you're successful you are a king forever....in the NFL, though the pay is better, at best you rent the throne until the salary cap and draft bring you down.
I think that it was not only ego with Spurrier but some things that went on that last season he was there with the acting president. I don't know the whole story but there was some undercurrent going on and Spurrier also made a comment about always being a 3 td favorite. No matter, he left and I agree about not coming back, he's better off and we are in great shape with Urban Meyer. I'm not sure why a successful college coach needs to leave for the pros. As you said he can be set for life right where he is so why move? Oh, one other thing about Spurrier, I don't believe he loved the recruiting or the going out and smoozing with the Gator clubs.
Good point Bill....not everyone enjoys that kind of stuff and God knows to be successful at places like Fla, OSU, ND, etc those demands are incredible.
You know, Bill, I was thinking about this article while on my way home yesterday (from Florida...of all places) and had some minor thoughts. It's admirable that he cares most about his team and his players, and it certainly is understandable that his attitude about them and his handling of them is paramount in why they are playing at such an improved level. But I wonder if the stuff about being a bit perfunctory (and late) around the press and fundraisers...just "doing his duty"...might be something he should be a little careful with. I don't think that a coach should "kiss up" to the press, but at the same time, I think you should treat them like their job is important. It might help you when you are recruiting or, uh, "lobbying" for a poll spot.
