Boy I want one of those cushy AD jobs. I could pass the time away handing out NCAA leaflets , playing on the computer, and when the sh!t hits the fan throw my hands up in the air and play dumb.
Now you are talking. We could have saved a lot of posts had you stated this in the beginning. We may still be at odds, because in my book, the President comes 1st , then the AD and lastly the coach. I realize it's not in vogue to place blame on the athletic director, but football is a sport that falls under his jurisdiction.

Well Willie is in school out in California, a L.A. area Jr. College that will likely lead to him playing Div1 football in the future. I would agree with the sentiment that society is better off with a Willie Williams employed and having a college education. From what I remember Willie was not a dumb kid scored pretty well on his SAT. It's just that I don't believe for a moment that nobody who recruited Willie knew he had the type of criminal background that he had.

I actually enjoyed Willies articles about his recruiting, I figured Willie was a personality that would be fun to watch in college football. But when it all came out, it appears that Willie is/was a con-man. I wouldn't have wanted Willie to be on either the Texas or ND squads no matter how much talent he has, let somebody else use their football teams as rehab programs. Funny thing though is that Willie didn't fail at Miami because of getting into trouble, he just walked away from the program. He probably didn't like where he was on the depth chart.

Jeeeesussss, there are just not enough hockey fans on the bb. A brawl like like that would be described as "good old time hockey" by a puck purist.

If you want to see a real dust up, check out the fight that took place between the Canadians and Russians in a junior match up.

Jezz are we sure those goalies are hetero?

What a dirty trick to turn the lights off on those guys, somebody could've been hurt!

Also can you generate much of a punch while you are on skates? Seems like the as you throw the punch Newtons 3rd law of motion would take most of the sting out of it.

What was the outcome of this? Game continued? Players tossed out of hockey? Any future famous hockey players?

BTW, at the Houston Aeros game last week they retired Gordie Howe's Jersey. Doesn't matter that he never played for this Aero's Team, but he looked pretty good, still wouldn't want to go into a corner with him!

I don't know what precipitated the LSU fight, but Coker could have done a better job handling the Louisville logo stomping which may have affected the FIU game.
There's a misunderstanding here. You are assuming that Coker is monitoring , hears and sees everything. I know he has big ears, but I'm sure he is not listening in on the conversations that TV announcer Thomas is having interviewing the Cane players about defending their turf, honoring their school, and cane pride. When I listen to thugs like Irwin,Sapp and Edgerin James talking about their Miami experiences, I can’t help but think that somewhere even if unintentional, there is not a negative influence on the present players. If Coker could identify and single out which players are bad influences,
I ‘m sure he would handle it on a one on one basis. If not, I don’t think he could just unilaterally ban all of them, destroying a football fraternity, creating political enemies, hindering fund raising, without consultation with his athletic director. If there is a problem the AD must step in.
That’s a good point. You never know which apple will be a bad apple, therefore, you can not assign blame to a coach for making a bad character judgement on a recruit. They are not clairvoyants or shrinks.
    Cancer is tough to cure.

Agreed, surely not in isolated instances. However, if it's not isolated but more the rule rather than the exception, then there would seem to be other issues at work.

AJ, at the end of the day, it has been my belief based upon my own observations that over time a football team takes on the character that its head coach intends to convey provided the head coach has the strength of character necessary to convey. That has been the case at my school since before I was born as well as your own and countless others as well.
That may not be true in every case, but at least imho, there is no more important ingredient in the character of a football program over time than the head coach.

I have always thought that Coker was decent fella since he was an assistant on Cooper's staff in Columbus. I do think as I have said that he's in over his head and is unfit to get the job done at Miami and therefore needs to go and at least in my opinion what has transpired with the program over several years is evidence of that.....

Miami Punishes Players by Making Them Attend Class

The University of Miami handed down harsh penalties today to its football players who were involved in a wild, in-game fight on Saturday night, requiring all those who were involved to attend a class. Some will even have to attend two classes.

“We have to get the point across to our players that this type of behavior can not happen, at least in front of cameras,” said head coach Larry Coker. “If they want to get in huge brawls off the field and away from TV cameras, that’s one thing. But they can’t be doing it on television. And in hopes they realize that, we’re really bringing the hammer down on them by making them go to an actual, university-level class. I realize it’s harsh, but hopefully we won’t have something like this happen again.”

Miami’s players felt the punishment was unfair and that it could only lead to more on-field brawls and outbursts.

“When I was recruited to come here I was told that if I play my cards right I could get out of here in three years and be in the NFL,” said freshman defensive back Ryan Hill. “Nowhere in the whole recruiting pitch was there any crap about academics or going to a class. I mean, this is Miami. It’s understood what we’re here for. We play football and some nerds take our tests and write our papers so the NCAA doesn’t bother us. That’s how it’s been for years. Making us go to a class is only going to piss us off and make us act out even more. And I can’t wait, to tell you the truth, because that was tons of fun on Saturday night.”

Sophomore safety Anthony Reddick, one of the players required to attend two classes, said he may instead decide to leave the program than subject himself to the horrors of education.

“I was talking to this one girl I hooked up with at a party last night, I can’t remember what her name was but she’s a student at Miami. Anyway, she told me that some of the classes here are in the morning and that they last as long as an hour,” said Reddick. “I’m hoping she was drunk when she said that because there’s no way I’m going to get up before noon to attend any f—king class. And, now that I think about, I know she was drunk when she said that because she passed out a few minutes later and didn’t wake up again until after I had sex with her and pushed her body out into the hall.”

And while several of the punished players are like Reddick and considering leaving Miami, others are willing to grit their teeth and suffer through a class.

“If I have to go, I’ll go,” said sophomore tight end DajLeon Farr. “But they can’t make me learn anything. I’ve made it this far without knowing how to read, and I see no reason to change that now.”

We will see the real "THUG U" after they complete their 5 game cupcake stretch this weekend. Like they have said..Miami could win against duke with their scout team. If they can beat the Techs, then that might show me something.

<t>Is an embarrassment to that university but then she was a disaster when she was a minion for the First Felon. Actually she needs to be run and Coker will be at years end. What an arrogant ingrate that woman is.</t>
