I found the answer. Florida specializes in growing juice oranges while California specializes in eating oranges. The two principal varieties are Valencia for juice and Navel for eating. Both states do grow both varieties, but Florida's juice industry manufactures over 60% of all juice consumed in the US. In Florida markets, the eating oranges come predominantly from California. There are other varieties of orange, like Blood Orange or Mandarin Orange, that are juiced also. But these juices tend to be more of a niche product and may not be found far from the groves in which they grow.
lol I was about to tell ya Terry.. even in CA, your OJ is Florida OJ.. but almost everywhere I've ever been the eating oranges are CA.
Ready or not it seems that spring has worked its way into central Florida because winter seems to be a no show.... This will probably get our butt kicked since winter will show up again, it just depends on how severe it gets when she visits... Peaches year six....Each bloom you see will be "hand" thinned so the peaches reach a tolerable size otherwise they will be the size of marbles. We normally have 3,000 blooms per tree and reduce that number down to 300 blooms. This cost roughly $1,000 per acre for the labor crew or $50,000. Then we hope a freeze, wind storm or some other catastrophe doesn't wipe out the crop...
