I did not know that until I read the above comment. He now is dead to me. He joins Kris McCendry and Linda Kohn in the dead-to-me club. Both women piled on ND several years ago. As a result, if I'm watching or listening to ESPN and either one of them comes on, I immediately switch to another channel. I refuse to acknowledge their existence. Henceforth, it will be the same with Berman. I disagree. If he missed it intentionally, it's his way of paying tribute in an exhibition game to a great and highly respected player. I have no problem with that. I thought it was pretty cool, especially after seeing the knowing smile on Chipper's face. From a Yankee fan? Certainly not.
There has been resentment in KC for the Yanks since the 50's. It was the KC franchise that actually stocked NY for their teams in the 60's. Here's a recap of trades made during that time Here's the complete article. http://www.baseball-almanac.com/corner/c042001b.shtml
Nobody threw a knife at Tommy John in Yankee Stadium. Why would he go on to play there for years if the fans tried to kill him? However, a psychopath threw a knife at Wally Joyner of the Angels.... "1986 August 26 – A fan threw a Bowie hunting knife at California Angels rookie Wally Joyner at Yankee Stadium. Joyner was hit on his left arm by the butt end of the knife, escaping injury.[25] That was an isolated incident involving an obviously deranged fan. What happened over the last two days in KC was an orchestrated fan display showing themselves as true idiots.
re: Kansas City The Yankees used the A's like a farm team for sure. Many of those trades wouldn't even be allowed today. The worst one that I remember was the Yanks trading 39 year-old Hank Bauer for 25 year-old stud-pony Roger Maris...
I remembered that Maris went to NY from KC, but I did not recall who KC had gotten in return. Interesting.
