Well, a good win for Alabama. Our defense appears to be very, very good. Except for a couple of plays, USC was not able to do anything that they wanted to do on offense. Their running game was completely shut down. Alabama's offense was not as impressive. Alabama was not able to be consistent in the running game. We broke a couple of long runs and the freshman qb (Jalen Hurts) is pretty mobile too. We played a lot of young running backs and that is a good thing, but I think our offensive line needs some work. Hurts, Bateman, and Barnett (the qbs that played) all seem to be able to throw well and our receiving corps did a good job also. I think USC is still not all of the way back from sanctions also. BUT, I am a happy camper this morning, especially when I look around at how other ranked programs did. :D

    kp,

You should be a happy camper! Your defense was superb. Good luck until we meet again.

<t>Who do you think is now the #1 QB, Hurts? <br/>

Also there are reports out there that Saban has hired Steve Sarkesian as an offensive analyst to help out...Kiffin and Sark back together again. Funny how things work.</t>

Lane can coach some football, he's just an asshole.
Sark can coach some football, he's just a man with a horrid drinking problem.

Send them to the no ******** 'Camp Saban' where he cleans them up and let's the good parts shine bright.

I told y'all that you'd be surprised when you saw Alabama's pass rush. No disrespect to A&M's formidable pass rush, but I don't think anyone has a front 4 like Alabama. They just rotate them in and the machine keeps on running.

USC's offense gets a prize for going toe to toe. USC's defense should have to walk home. I agree with KP in that Bama's got some OLine work to do. A big reason the score got away was USC's defense sh*tting the bed (the safety decides on his own to blitz). When Hurts looked over to that side, it was like the cheerleaders were naked. His eyes lit up and he couldn't contain it. He tried, but there was no hiding it. That was 6. That's a high school mistake. The punter drops the snap and then digs a hole to hide in. Just a lot of dump plays for USC that you just can't make against a team of that caliber.

I think everyone thought Hurts was the best guy coming in. I think that showed. I think what also showed is why Saban is afraid to use a freshman (his INT was a terrible read). Nick likes them to manage the game, not be the game. I don't think we've seen the last of Barnett at Bama.

In the end, it's just one game in a long, long road. I believe they are at Arkansas and LSU this year... aren't they?

    Terry,
I think Saban is looking for any excuse not to start a true freshman, but in the end he will play the guy that practices the best. Short answer, I think Hurts is the starter by the end of the season.

Well our redshirt freshman qb (Barnett) just left the team apparently because of our true freshman starting qb (Hurts). Barnett started the first game of the season, but I guess he didn't want to fight for the position. :?

    Kp,

Our first commit for 2017, a 3 Star QB from Akron, committed to the Buckeyes when he was a freshman, has decided that there are too many QBs ahead of him and had uncommitted this week. These very early commits are a bit ridiculous.

    Don,
I guess Barnett thought he was a shoe in for the starting position, then he got beat out by a true freshman. Alabama has a couple of more pretty good qb's (sophomore and a junior) that are on the roster (for now  ). Apparently he met with Saban yesterday but Saban was not aware that he was actually leaving. We'll see. Hurts is a mobile dual threat who is one hit away from an injury so someone will have to be ready to step up.

Funny how things work out, ND fans were bummed when Barnett bailed on his commitment to the Irish, but then later on we picked up another pretty highly rated kid in David Wimbush who most are pretty excited about for the future. Wimbush has actually been patient and is currently waiting his time on the bench.

I was wondering why he would leave now before the end of the season, I mean Hurts could get "hurt" and he'd have a shot at getting back on the field. But maybe his attitude has gone sour and he's not just 2nd team but 4th team and Kiffin doesn't talk to him anymore.

Of course if he's leaving, he can't talk to other coaches/teams while he's a part of the Alabama program. So by leaving the program he can talk to schools and have a couple of months to make up his mind where he lands.

He still will have to sit out 2017 of course, but he can enroll in Jan and go through Spring Drills with his new team.

He liked Oregon a lot when he was being recruited and the Ducks have lately been living off of Graduate Transfers at QB. So maybe that's where he'll land.

Tim Williams arrested today for carrying a gun without a permit. It's a misdemeanor, likely no consequences. I do wonder why he felt the need to be armed? Personal safety or was he just transporting it from one place to another.

Supposedly Williams is saying he has a permit but he didn't have it with him. I don't know why the need for a gun in Tuscaloosa either. And what the hell is he doing out at 2am? :x
