When I saw the Arkansas/Texas matchup, I thought, "Well now there's a reunion of old pals..."

Well rumors are going around that both Taurean Folston and Greg Bryant are going to be dismissed from the team for violations of team rules. If true that pretty much ends any hope of even a decent showing.

Oh yeah and you remember Justin Brent the WR who was dating the 42 y/o porn star....well he's moved on to bigger things.

I don't know how we ditch this kid, I'm sure there would be a mini-furor if ND kicked him out for dating ho's ..but I'd be for it.

The extra practice time is important.

I know that Col. Jim Bowie, in the last letter he sent by courier to Gen. Sam Houston, claimed that the extra practice the Tennessee volunteers brought to the Alamo probably accounted for the fort standing for 13 days instead of say, a week.

That's not how I heard it. The Alamo bought Sam Houston more practice time so he was ready for the San Jacinto Bowl.

well it looks like the rumors that have been floating around this time are just that. Seem to stem from some comment made by Jack Arute on his XM radio show and just took off in all kinds of directions. Thankfully this time it appears to be all smoke and no fire. Now on young Mr Brent......well that's another story all together.</t>

Well this author calls like it is...60 months into the Kelly regime we still don't have a solid starting QB. Kelly said in his press conf that the job is open, Malik Zaire will compete for the starting job with Golson...for the Bowl game.

    So what?

Did we not have a solid starting QB in 2012? Memories can be awfully short when we've had a bad season by ND standards.

<t>I was listening to Arute today and he still says some rumblings in South Bend but nothing to do with suspensions disqualifications etc. more along the lines of some type of coaching or program change but he says he won't say more until he gets more substantial/credible word.</t>

Sid...that solid starting QB needed Tommy Rees to bail him out a couple of times. But I get your point. I guess the frustration that a lot of fans feel is that Golson just imploded after starting so well, it feels like Ron Powlus all over again. Lou would just not pull him no matter what he did.

Terry, that frustration is legitimate and very understandable. I share that frustration. It was the tone of the article that rankled me, the inference that Kelly doesn't know what he's doing, which I consider an example of armchair criticism by the writer. It reminded me of the piling-on mentality of the media during our lean years following Holtz. I guess it comes with the territory for the ND program.

As always, time will tell. The next two seasons IMO are crucial to his standing as our head coach. By 2016, the 2013 and 2014 recruiting classes will be juniors and seniors. If they develop as hoped for and if leadership emerges, we should be OK. If not, well.....................

I don't know what Kelly is going to do with regards to the staff and it certainly is his modus to hire from within a circle of guys he's known or coached with during his career. Both La Fleur and BVG are guys he knew from back in the day at GVSU or Central Michigan.

Quinn and He had a lot of success at UC. I think he has a good history with Denbrock and I can't see him firing or demoting Denbrock , plus Quinn has always coached the OL and Coordinators always coach a position. So if you bring in Quinn you probably let HH go.

BTW with Jim McElwain onboard now at UF and their situation settling down he he is going to meet with Tevon Coney this week. I wouldn't be shocked if Coney was a late flip to the Gators. I think they were his first choice but the whole thing surrounding the coaching staff helped us. He's an early enrollee so he'll have to make up his mind quick. Our collapse in the 2nd half can't have helped our cause.

<r>For what it's worth, Arute today is apologizing for his comment and stating he had heard from several credible sources that Kelly was being courted by more than one NFL team for possible coaching job. <E></E> <E></E> <E></E></r>

That doesn't surprise me. I'm sure several college coaches are being courted by NFL teams. No problem. If he leaves, Phil Fulmer and Gary Barnett will be available.
