I don't ever remember Peyton being a "media darling. In fact, I remember the media crucifying him each year he lost to Florida.

I could understand the media fawning over Tebow if they, the announcers, were covering a Florida game. But every single game I tuned in to was a praise fest even when there wasn't even a SEC team in the game.

You and I have different memories Tom. I remember Peyton getting unbelievable press each year prior to our game. In fact in 96 they had all but handed him the Heisman but the Gators won when we played, Peyton had some interceptions and Wuerffel had an outstanding game and continued all year.

No big deal though, what it does point out is different perceptions.

    interesting enough...

I think you guys are both right. Manning was a media darling until he lost to the Gators. Then they would give him the 'Brady Quinn treatment' that took him outta the Heisman. Then as he would win on thru the year, he would go back to being a darling...and perhaps the games greatest player, if he only had that signature win that the great players like Wuerfel had.... :D
